Summary/Abstract: In 2021, the team of academic staff of the newly established Institute of Special Education at the FVP SU in Opava is to implement a project of the Ministry of Education and Science – Practical Model of Primary Prevention of Risky Behaviour in Schools (PRCH-IPorganization_ 0040/2021), which is in line with the long-term concept of the development of scientific and research activities of the Institute. Primary prevention of risky behaviour in schools is an important component of early pedagogical intervention, especially in the context of current trends of inclusive education accompanied by increasing heterogeneity of classroom collectives and increasing demands on pupils‘ social skills. The priority topics of the scientific and research activities of the Institute of Special Education include: inclusive education with an emphasis on the education of pupils at risk of school failure and pupils with special educational needs, the development of cooperation between the university and practice with a focus on the issue of balancing opportunities for citizens with disabilities in the Moravian-Silesian region, and strengthening the competencies of graduates of special education for the needs of the labour market.
