Summary/Abstract: András Bodor (1915–1999) was the only Hungarian scholar of classical studies from Transylvania who gained international fame. His rich intellectual and scientific legacy and significant role in teaching and university life of Cluj is a defining legacy of the 20th century Hungarian cultural history and history in Transylvania. The present study seeks to fill a gap in the history of Hungarian historiography, primarily by analyzing the work of András Bodor and interpreting it in the broader, historical context of European and international classical scholarship in the light of new biographical and historical sources. The study primarily undertakes the analysis of Bodor’s works on antiquity, the main research topics of his works, examining their intellectual background, historical significance, and the development of András Bodor’s intellectual and personal life on the basis of new, previously unpublished sources (recollections, correspondence).
