Summary/Abstract: The paper responds critically to the article Nekodifikujme, raději popisujme a vysvětlujme normu a úzus. Pěstujme jazykovědu, nepěstěme jazyk (Let’s not codify language, let’s describe and explain its norms and usage instead: let’s practice linguistics instead of refining language) by Luboš and Vojtěch Veselý (2019). We find the authors’ statements problematic, hence our aim is to diagnose the argumentation malady they suffer from and propose complex treatment. In the initial text, we identify a “polemic succession syndrome” manifested by a few symptoms: ignorance of substantial part of language planning’s field of interest, lack of differenciatedness or its confusing/misleading simplification, resignation from the challenges related to its research due to their difficulty, rashness in constructing the relation between corpora evidence (language usage) and language awareness/knowledge (norm) and one-sided approach to language users which the authors try to protect from accusal of lack of competence due to unclear reasons.
