Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the role played by the Bible and particularly the Psalter in Slavonic cultural history. After a short sketch of its importance in the Slavia orthodoxa it concentrates on the Slavia romana and here on those parts of it that today belong to the Slavia submersa or that have survived in a precarious minority position. Special attention is being paid to the history of Psalter translations in Lower and Upper Sorbian as well as Slovincian.
