Summary/Abstract: The paper is a confrontation of the "mission societies" phenomenon, historically derived from the experience of Enver Hoxha's communism, on the one hand, and the question of the traitor, on the other. Theoretical and interpretive basis are three novels related to the complex figure of a traitor and the concept of "mission society": Ferdinand Louis Celine's Journey to the End of the Night and the novels The Daughter of Agamemnon and Successor of Ismail Kadare. The paper traces how these three fictions correlate with certain aspects of the Albanian reality of the last century. Thoughts of betrayal versus heroism in philosophical and historical sense are intertwined with data on Albanian intellectuals Martin Kamaj and Ernest Kolici.
