Around the controversies concerning the theory of evolution

Summary/Abstract: The present essay is composed of two parts. In the first part, the seeming conflict between the theory of evolution and religious faith is discussed. The theory of evolution is a scientific biological theory explaining by the natural mechanisms such phenomena as diversity of animal species, their changes with time, and their differerntial similarity For religious people (including myself) God is the source of the Universe evolution including the evolution of life. This view does not results from, but also does not stay in opposition to the scientific theory of evolution The second part is devoted to some examples of phylosophical (or, in majority rather pseudophilosophical) interpretations of the theory of evolution (social darwinism, eugenics, racism),It is underlined that corectness of the scientific theory does not presume the correctness of its philosophical interpretations. In turn, the falseness of some (pseudo) philosophical interpretations exceeding the limits of biology, does not mean the falsification of the theory of evolution. Poniższy esej składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej części dyskutowany jest rzekomy konflikt miedzy teorią ewolucji a wiarą religijną. Teoria ewolucji jest naukową, biologiczną teorią wyjaśniającą, za pomocą naturalnych mechanizmów, takie zjawiska, jak różnorodność gatunków, ich zmienność w czasie oraz ich zróżnicowane podobieństwo. Dla ludzi religijnych (do których także należę) źródłem ewolucji Wszechświata, łącznie z ewolucją Życia, jest Bóg. Ten pogląd nie wynika, ale też nie stoi w sprzeczności z naukową teorią ewolucji i jakąkolwiek teorią naukową. Druga część tekstu poświęcona jest niektórym przykładom filozoficznych (w większości raczej pseudofilozoficznych) interpretacji teorii ewolucji. Należą do nich m.in. darwinizm społeczny, eugenika i rasizm. Podkreślono, że prawidłowość teorii naukowej nie przesądza o poprawności jej filozoficznych interpretacji. Z kolei, fałszywość niektórych (pseudo)filozoficznych interpretacji, przekraczających granice biologii, nie pociąga za sobą falsyfikacji teorii ewolucji.
