Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this thesis is to survey and study the bilingualism in the town of Saľa and its district in Slovakia. It is divided into two parts. The first is the theoretical part which offers an insight into the district´s history and present, as well as its ethnic nationalities, in particular Hungarians’ living in Slovakia. This is followed by the empirical part which shows the results of the research. The aim of the research was to examine the bilingualism in the district of Saľa together with the ethnic composition, nationality and language competences of the informants and their family members. Finally, the dialects were also observed, and the opinions of the informants regarding their values were mapped.
