Summary/Abstract: The topic selection and topicality of the study is ensured by the Jókai Encyclopedia published in 2020. Although the lexicological and lexicographical literature is slowly making up for the backlog in processing the writers’ vocabulary, even in the age of computer dictionary editing, there is plenty of debt in processing the vocabulary of the greatest personalities of our literature. The Jókai Encyclopedia which processes most of Jókai’s vocabulary continues the series of these works. The first part of the paper is about the purpose and task of writers’ dictionaries, and then introduces some writer’s dictionaries such as the Jókai Dictionary and the Jókai Encyclopedia. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the usefulness of Jókai’s vocabulary and the way of creating words in school education by using the Jókai Encyclopedia. After this, the writer’s vocabulary and the way of creating words are analysed, taking the example material from Jókai’s primary school compulsory reading entitled Sons of the Stone-Hearted Man.
