Summary/Abstract: The article compares the state of emergency and euthanasia. An answer is sought to the question of whether euthanasia is a state of emergency and whether it is possible without it. The first part focuses on the difference between thinking and experiencing death. The second considers the state of emergency as the abolition of public orders governing both society and the life of the individual. The question arises about the need for time to realize the cultural symbolizations necessary for the integration of new social practices. The third examines euthanasia from the point of view of its emergency and the extent to which it implies personal or collective responsibility. In conclusion, the view is presented that the state of emergency, which arose as a community decision, is always experienced as a personal and specific case in the dynamics of the questions When and Whether it should occur.
