What We Have Not Wanted to Hear about the Genesis of the Bulgarian Intelligentsia? (A Comment)

Summary/Abstract: The author presents and discusses Thomas A. Meininger’s pioneer work The Formation of a Nationalist Bulgarian Intelligentsia, 1835–1878. It is distinguished by an innovative approach which would enrich Bulgarian history, philosophy and the humanities. Despite the fact that three decades have passed since its first publication, it has been undeservingly neglected which harms Bulgarian social thought. The author of the iomment also offers some theoretical possibilities and devices for further elaboration on Meininger’s approach – the anomie concept, the comparative approach and particularly the comparison of social sturctures in Balkan societies.
