Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to analyze, from a sociolinguistic point of view, the relationship between the Romanian language spoken in the North of the country and the society which uses it. Any change that the society undergoes is automatically felt at the language level, especially at the lexical one, which is the most ‘open’ part of any language. The so-called reactions of the ‘talking subject’ are being analyzed. These reactions occur when the common user of the language takes different attitudes towards the forms he uses. Among the phenomena that we have paid special attention to are: hypercorrectness, contamination and popular etymology.
