Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the dynamics of the development of universal values in the context of global change. In order to assess the factors leading to a persistent adaptation to changing environmental conditions, it is important to analyse value systems and their development in detail. The analysis begins with a discussion and comparison of the value theories of Shalom H. Schwartz and Ronald Inglehart and then moves on to a discussion of Lithuania’s position on the World Cultural Map. The map shows that Lithuania is moving away from traditional values, and although material values still dominate, it is likely that post-material values will gradually prevail as the appreciation of individualism grows. The study concludes with a summary of trends. On the bases of these trends, we can state that with the advancement of self-expression values, adaptation to changing conditions become more fluent.
