Summary/Abstract: The dynamic of nuclear security is a constant process, which has evolved through key stages in the past seven decades. The primary factors in the process are focused on the technological advancements made in offensive nuclear arms, as well as the means to counter them, namely Missile Defense. The systems for defence from a nuclear attack are a controversial matter since the second half of the Cold War, but their highest level of impact on nuclear security has been expressed in the past two decades and after the collapse of the treaty framework that limited their development and deployment. The following paper focuses on this specific aspect of nuclear security by examining the specifics of the systems for missile defence and how their evolution has overcome historical technical deficiencies, transforming them in a primary factor for the contemporary dynamic of nuclear security.
