Summary/Abstract: American view of the Russian estate. Review to: Antonova Pickering K. The Chikhachevs. The World of the Local Nobility in Nicholas Russia; trans. from English by M. Semikolennykh; scientific ed. S. Antonov. Moscow: New literary review, 2019.456 p. (Series: Historia Rossica), Intelligentsia and the world, 2021, no. 3, pp. 108—112. The review examines the book by K. Pickering Antonova “The Chikhachevs. The World of the Local Nobility in Nicholas Russia” (Moscow: New literary review, 2019). The author focuses on the peculiarities of the American researcher’s view of the history of provincial Russia in the first half of the XIX century. The book attempts to show the world of the local nobility of Russia through a local plot — the Chikhachev family from the Kovrov district of the Vladimir province. Special attention is paid to the research methodology — the combination of microhistory and gender within the traditions of Anglo-American historiography. The structure of the work and the most important observations of the author, which distinguish it from the approaches of Russian researchers, are shown. It is emphasized that the study is an example of intellectual history based on local history material. Based on the analysis of K. Pickering Antonova’s research, a conclusion is made about the scientific integrity and value of the methodology used by the author for the development of Russian historiography. Objectivity is noted.
