Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to analyze the linguistic phenomenon of language maintenance and language shift among immigrants of Albanian origin living in the state of Arizona in the United States of America. This study explores the attitudes of the Albanian community in Arizona toward Albanian as native and/or heritage language and reviews the way Albanian is used as a means of communication among the Albanian community in Arizona. By comparing the respondents’ answers to the survey questions about their relative use of Albanian and English, it is intended to determine the degree of Albanian language preservation in different generations of Albanian immigrants in that state.
