Summary/Abstract: The starting point for considering the problem at the center of the article is an episode from the early childhood of the elder Zosima — the character of the novel The Brothers Karamazov, when during the divine service in the temple on Great Monday during Holy Week, he heard a reading from the biblical Book of Job, and this was the beginning of his spiritual development. The analysis involves the testimony of the writer’s wife about the autobiographical nature of this episode. Updating the initial acquaintance of Dostoevsky-a child with the story of the long-suffering Job based on the children’s book One Hundred and Four Sacred Stories from the Old and New Testaments by I. Gübner. The question is raised about the causes of the commotion experienced by Dostoevsky in the temple during the divine service, if by this time he already knew the plot of the Book of Job from a brief summary in the One Hundred and Four Sacred Stories.... The solution proposed in the article is based on a comparative analysis of the canonical text of the Bible and the version of the plot of Job described in the book by I. Gübner.
