Summary/Abstract: The Bulgarian language used in social media, forums, messaging platforms, etc. is clearly assuming characteristics that bring it closer to colloquial speech. This article analyzes some interesting tendencies in the use of uppercase and lowercase letters in the speech of Internet users. The variety of functions of these letters demonstrates that, for native speakers of Bulgarian, their use is a means to compensate for the lack of a number of non-linguistic components that spoken language originally utilizes to achieve expressiveness and, simultaneously, dynamism and naturalness.
