Summary/Abstract: There are many Russian studies about governmental family policy and family values of the population, in particular the students. But there are few works in which the level and specific parameters of the correspondence between the goals of the state and the perceptions of the population in relation to the desired family model are analyzed. The authors, using the method of analysis of official (the concepts of family policy) and personal (139 essays by students — future lawyers and journalists) documents, determine such parameters. They say that the models of family and family relations between the state and students coincide in terms of the family form (complete family with children) but differ in the main family function (reproductive function versus emotional and psychotherapeutic function). The perceptions of young people in relation to the image of a prosperous family are characterized by inconsistency: the features of the traditionalist model coexist with the egalitarian one. At the same time, only 6 % of students believe that a man should be the head of the family, 45 % are in favor of an equal division of roles in the family.
