Summary/Abstract: The amendments to Law no. 273/2004 on the adoption procedure in the last 10 years have been significant and have mainly aimed the increasing of the efficiency of the adoption procedures and, implicitly, the number of the adopted children.The article highlights the evolution of the adoption legislation between 2012-2021, aiming mainly the declaring of the adoptability of the children from the social protection system, the provisions on the assessment and the certification of adoptive persons/families, as well as the measures to simulate the domestic adoption.Also, in the second part of the article there were approached procedural issues regarding the matching between an adoptable child and an adoptive person/family, highlighting the role of the local authority in this procedure, but also the selection criteria and the matching procedure in the case of children with public profile, as well as in the case of children who reached the age of 14. The article also contains relevant statistics on the increase of the number of adoptable children and the number of persons/families certified for adoption, but also on the number of children with public profile adopted from 2016 to 2021, respectively the adopted children who reached the age of 14.Through the new legislative framework, the Romanian central authority also considered the implementation of a new set of measures to support and stimulate the domestic adoption in order to meet the needs identified in practice.
