Summary/Abstract: This article provides an outline of the national regulations concerning the right of the adoptee to know his or her biological identity and the principle of confidentiality for all the actors involved in the adoption procedure, both of them part of the right to respect for private life. The national provisions are analyzed taking into account the European Court of Human Rights Article 8 case law, with a view to ensuring a fair balance between the conflicting interests of the adoptee, the adoptive family and the biological family. At the same time, proposals de lege ferenda are included in order to fully comply with the Conventional standard.
