Summary/Abstract: The topic of this paper is the phraseological competence of bilingual speakers of German and Czech in their heritage language, Czech. On the one hand, idiomatic phraseological similes and, on the other hand, very common, only slightly idiomatic collocational phrasemes were chosen as the material for the study. On the basis of data obtained from a cloze test, a translation exercise and interviews, the paper analyses the kind of Czech phrasemes (and, if possible, how firmly) heritage speakers have stored in their mental lexicon and what strategies they use when their phraseological competence in the heritage language is called upon. The interlingual phraseological equivalence German -Czech was also considered in this context.
