The level of security of public transport as one of the main elements of the quality of transport services based on the example of Krakow (Poland)

Summary/Abstract: Urban transport is playing a more and more significant role in the functioning of large urban agglomerations. Readily available public transport constitutes a cheap, fast and safe mean of transport, enabling the commuting from one place to another. The attractiveness of transport service depends on a number of factors including, among others, safety. It concerns both passengers and drivers being directly exposed to the perils of transport. High standard of service reduces the risk related with transport, providing at the same time a widely understood sense of safety for people using it. The aim of the article is to indicate the most important aspects influencing safety in public transport, based on the example of the solutions applied in Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne SA w Krakowie (English: Municipal Transport Services Inc of Kraków) along with the presentation of challenges and perspectives of Polish public transport.
