Short Description

The birth and then successive enlargement of the European Union generated not only a new economic area filled with a network of economic relations, but a new, or at least – significantly changed – socio-cultural environment filled with emerging social networks. This important and lasting process becomes a serious challenge for social science researchers. The editors of ‘Studia Sociologica’ believe that they are obliged and predestined to face the challenge because of the fact that they are located at the Pedagogical University of Cracow – in a country and in the city located at the borderland between the East and West as well as North and South of Europe. Such a location is not only an excellent observatory point of the influences, trends and their crisscrossing impacts in this region, but also a good location to coordinate the efforts and research conducted by academics following and analyzing these phenomena. This is why we have decided to open our door and create an opportunity for constant exchange of experiences between researchers in our journal. The broad scope and variety of topics relating to the phenomena, processes and trends emerging in the new socio-cultural European area enable us to envisage long-lasting research and publishing plans. It makes us use English as a tool for communication between thinkers and researchers from various countries and research institutions and to monitor their efforts through an international advisory board. Hence, ‘Studia Sociologica’ has become an international journal involving analyses and research papers written by academics from various institutions. We would like to invite all of those who are interested in the new phenomena and processes emerging within the European social and cultural area for cooperation in paper contributions and critical reading.
