Summary/Abstract: Given that the term “media and information literacy” itself includes media, the logical question is whether the media should play a role in promoting media and information literacy? Is it in line with their mission and is it in the media interest? The answer to this question is affirmative, and in this chapter we are presenting arguments that connect media freedoms with certain social obligations, which includes the promotion of media and information literacy, and we argue why the media should be active in this domain.
