Summary/Abstract: This article examines the main issues in regard to the right to a fair trial in criminal matters. Particularly it provides an overview of the Court case-law involving Bulgaria. This concerns the right to an independent and impartial tribunal established by law; the court's jurisdiction and access to court in criminal matters; right to a public hearing and a public pronouncement of judgement; the right to a fair trial within a reasonable time, the presumption of innocence and the basic rights of the defense of anyone who has been charged.
