Summary/Abstract: An important part of the scholarly and the theological interest in the heritage of medieval chant is the restoration of the latter in the rite and the re-printing of the main parts of chant books during the first half of the 20th century. The Ambrosian antiphoner of 1935 includes chants for the commemoration of SS. Cyril and Methodius. The author's previous investigation of the Gregorian repertory for the saints shed light on the widespread veneration of the holy brothers in the West and commented on the possibilities of composing the full repertory for them. The present investigation focuses on analogical questions regarding the appearance of the Ambrosian repertory for the saints - whether the melodies were borrowed from the notated medieval repertory or whether they were compiled in modern times. If they were newly compiled, how was it done: by adaptating already existing chants (if so, which ones), or by composing anew. The present investigation tries to answer these questions but also to shed light on the general process of compiling a chant repertory in modern times for feast days not existing or rarely mentioned in the Latin medieval liturgical calendar.
