Summary/Abstract: This study examines the ways in which the popular prose works Báječná léta pod psa (The Blissful Years of Lousy Living) by Michal Viewegh and Občanský průkaz (The Identity Card) by Petr Šabach display nostalgia for the Communist period. Its main manifestation can be found in remembering the possibilities of resistance under the repressive regime before 1989 and the associated longing for petty, everyday heroism. The study analyses how the nostalgic mood of both texts is achieved through the use of humour, which can figure both as a means of resistance and as its result. At the same time, the study aims to show that the good-natured, humorous mood of both texts does not rule out condemnation of the previous regime. The thematization of resistance and the narrative structure of these works make the reader identify with characters who adopt an anti-Communist stance. Hence the nostalgia of these texts does not relate to the Communist period as such, but to a narrative of its successful overcoming.
