Summary/Abstract: Power, one of fundamental human motives, is related with pursuit of external goals, what restrains the attainment of internal goals and in result of well-being. This can be especially associated with misuse of power, that can reduce the quality of interpersonal relationships, related to the need for affiliation. First research (N = 171) confirms, that the tendency to misuse power (as a mean to individual goals) is related with decreased preference of values associated with internal goals like affiliation (“Self-transcendence” and “Conservation”) and increased preference of those allowing to “push forward” (“Self-enhancement” and “Openness to change”) as well as decreased satisfaction with life. In the second research (N = 93) women working as managers (subject to threat of losing power), proved to have lessened well-being, measured as satisfaction with life and level of burnout. Additionally burnout of women managers was mainly characterized by the dimension of depersonalization (Maslach’s bournout model).
