Summary/Abstract: France, as a founding member of the European Community/European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a nuclear power, is one of Poland’s principal political, economic, cultural, scientific and technological partners. 2004 marked a breakthrough in Polish-French relations. After a period of misunderstandings caused by different approaches to the Iraqi crisis and the Constitutional Treaty negotiations, relations improved. That was significantly enhanced by Poland’s accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004, following which France began to view Poland as an attractive EU partner. France is the largest foreign investor in Poland.
