Summary/Abstract: This essay undertakes a brief engagement with Martin Heidegger’s reading of Sophocles’ “Ode to Man” to orient hermeneutic engagements with three paintings (Goya’s Saturn Devouring His Children, El Greco’s Purification of the Temple, and Hodler’s Truth) to say something about hermeneutic education, truth, and violence.
