Z marginesów do centrum: Encyklopedia gender i inne nowe omówienia a przemieszczanie dyscypliny gender studies

Author(s): Przemysław Górecki / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 1/2017

This article discusses four recent publications in the context of the shift in gender studies from the margins to the centre. These publications are Teorie wywrotowe [Subversive Theories: An Anthology of Translations], ed. by A. Gajewska (2012), Antropologia seksualności [Anthropology of Sexuality], ed. by A. Kościańska (2012), the three-volume Historii ciała [History of the Body], ed. by A. Corbin, G. Vigarello and J. Courtine, and Encyklopedia gender [The Gender Encyclopaedia], ed. by M. Rudaś-Grodzkiej et al. (2014). This phenomenon manifests itself in the systematization of non-systemic knowledge; bibliographies are brought up to date and the interdisciplinary status of gender studies is consolidated while its historiographical background is highlighted. Górecki how all these books – and in particular Encyklopedia gender [The Gender Encyclopaedia] – exemplify this phenomenon.

Author(s): Zofia Duniewska / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 98/2016

The article includes considerations devoted to the good of the municipality: the contents that liebehind this concept, the connections between this good and other ones and the factors influencingits conformation. The municipality may be perceived as a small version of the homeland that fillsthe space between the family and the state-level community. Its residents create a self-governmentcommunity by virtue of law. It serves the good of the commune, especially – its members. Thegood of the municipality is a primary value, underlying the existence of the local community, itsprosperity, law and order. As a value itself, the good of a municipality should entrench other merits. The list of factors, building that complex and underdetermined term, is non-exhaustive and extensive. This good has also a relative nature. It may be featured from different points of view and indistinct contexts. Its relations to other goods may take different forms. There are various factors, deciding what constitutes such good. They are rooted in the very center of the community, as wellas outside of it as the independent ones. Delineating and realization of the good of the municipalityhas to be based on the consensus reached through the discussion and the social compromise. Theactions undertaken for the benefit of the municipality are closely correlated with the nature and therole of the primary territorial self-government unit. The good of the municipality – having regardto the respect for, in particular, the principles of humanism, legitimacy, equality, social justice, democratism, solidarity and subsidiarity – is a primary rationale for its existence and for entrustingpublic functions to the individuals acting for its benefit.

Z ruských osobných a spoločenských dejov

Author(s): Viera Žemberová / Language(s): Slovak / Issue: 1/2015

Attention is paid to the prosaic works by Mikhail Bulgakov, which returned to the European cultural practice. The uniqueness of Bulgakov's authorial creativity, tragic experience of his civic, professional and personal life gave his prosaic works a strong experiential background, wisdom extracted from his personal life in Russia and a moral distance from the Soviet social movements apparently promising a valuable human life which is subsequently destroyed. Bulgakov's depiction/vision of his own revolutionary experience maintains the author's ambition to understand man's conscious acting against a human being with different views in mind and not to succumb to negative emotions when coping with this experience.

Z Wielkopolski do Bytomia

Author(s): Krzyszof Karwat / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 4/2018

Migracje młodych Polaków do miast akademickich

Author(s): Anna Datko / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 37/2014

The 21st century is an age of mobility. Young Poles have also adapted to this trend – they migrate both abroad and within the confines of their own country. In the paper the author presents the migration to Polish academic cities, to which people arrive because of beginning their studies. But they do not only want to graduate from a university. Moving from their hometown entails too some bigger aims, such as launching a successful professional career, or staying and living in a big city and in consequence being a member of the metropolitan middle class. Academic education is considered due to its usefulness in gaining these aims (through the instrumental role of higher education) – and studies are more and more only a legitimization of a permanent migration to a metropolis.

Za hranicou solidarity. Obhajovanie princípu dôstojnosti pre všetkých

Za hranicou solidarity. Obhajovanie princípu dôstojnosti pre všetkých

Author(s): Zuzana Kusá / Language(s): Slovak / Issue: 5/2017

Beyond Solidarity Boundaries. Defending the Principle of Dignity for All. The article examines the place universal solidarity and ‘dignity for all’ principles have in common thinking about just society in situation of their long-term marginalisation in political discourse and discourse about living conditions of vulnerable groups in Slovakia.First it scrutinises sociological literature dealing with conditions for expanding and sustaining universal solidarity. Theoretical framework based on the ideas of Durkheim, Joas and Alexander about the role of cultivating emotions and cultural articulation of suffering in expansion of solidarity is used to identify the gaps in discursive resources that are necessary for advocating right to dignity for groups that tend to be morally excluded. Then it analyses the transcripts of 8 focus groups, the scenario of which replicates the EVS 2017 items testing universalistic solidarity as warranting basic living conditions for all and concern about living conditions of diverse social groups. The findings support the expectation that the missing discursive backing will threaten the advocacy of solidarity for vulnerable groups such as Roma and long-term unemployed. Advocates of universal solidarity were marginalised and universal solidarity rather pugnaciously refused for being in clash with meritocratic and reciprocity principles. A very existence of welfare system that supposedly privileges Roma to the detriment of underprivileged “white” majority was seen as distortion of principle of equality. Za i przeciw społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu

Za i przeciw społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu

Author(s): Katarzyna Kopeć / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 108/2016

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is commonly accepted among managers and sought after by wide circles of stakeholders. Literature describes almost every aspect of CSR in a very detailed way. However, a thorough analysis of this theme, including a balanced examination of positive and negative elements which determine CSR activities, is hardly researched at all. There is a dominance of an enthusiastic view on CSR, which usually idealizes this type of activity from one perspective. This approach is based on a priori assumption that CSR unquestionably means positive effects for enterprises and also for its external environment. The paper's aim is to draw attention to the pros and cons of CSR in a possibly consistent and synthetic way. It presents an extensive spectrum of motives to carry out CSR activity in enterprises. The article refers to critical views on CSR as well as shows arguments in favour of the effectiveness of the CSR activity.

Author(s): Charles C. Camosy / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 666/2016

Konsekwentnie bez przemocy.

Zaangażowani i obojętni wobec działalności publicznej. Teoria kultury politycznej jako narzędzie analizy postaw wobec sfery publicznej

Author(s): Piotr Czakon / Language(s): Polish / Issue: XIII/2015

In this article the author presented chosen themes from his MA thesis that focused on the general problem of university students’ participation in the public sphere. However in paper, the author focused on the theoretical and operational aspect of his research project. The article provides the description of elaborated classification model of the participants of the study – division into the people with “active” and “passive” attitude to the public sphere. For this purpose, the author reinterpreted classical visions of the public sphere, civil society and political culture, demonstrating that the division of attitudes to political systems can be applied for analysis of the entire public sphere as based on the theory of political culture.

Zaangażowanie muzeum w proces komunikowania o zmianie klimatu

Zaangażowanie muzeum w proces komunikowania o zmianie klimatu

Author(s): Elżbieta Nieroba / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 1/2019

In this paper I addressed the issue of the engagement of museums in climate change. The problem of climate change is so important in the current social context that, despite its difficult political connotations, it cannot be ignored by museums, especially if we consider a museum as an element of a public sphere. Climate change is a challenge in 21st century. Climate change will present challenges that are of long-term nature, multidimensional and global phenomenon. It could impact directly on museums. I assume museums can provide a safe place for dialogue around climate change. Museums can also inform publics about the science of climate change and help to equip people with knowledge, shape their attitudes and behaviour, and strengthen the mechanism of participation. Potential barriers in effective communication could be the problem of uncertainty of our knowledge about climate change, scientific discourse in the process of communication and getting visitors involved.

Zaangażowanie parlamentów narodowych w latach 2015-2017 w działania na rzecz przezwyciężenia kryzysu imigracyjnego w UE

Author(s): Michał Dulak / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 12/2018

Involvement of Member States’ parliaments in the debate on the problem of illegal migration to the EU has intensified in 2015 and 2016. The article discusses the powers of parliaments under the Treaty of Lisbon, allowing them to influence political processes in the migration, asylum and borders control policies in the EU. Article presents also the activities of parliaments in the years 2015-2017 regarding the legislative proposals on mechanism of relocation and resettlement and the reform of the Common European Asylum System. The results show that the instruments most frequently used by parliaments were: interparliamentary cooperation, control of compliance with the principle of subsidiarity and political dialogue. Due to the lack of necessary executive acts to control Europol’s activities, in 2015-2017 parliaments did not use the meetings of the Europol Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group in the area of freedom, security and justice. At the same time, it could be noted that the national parliaments of the Member States that opposed the admission of immigrants (mainly from Central and Eastern Europe) were more active in the EU than the parliaments of states with positive attitude towards relocation and resettlements program.
