In an Eriugeny’s philosophical system God is a transcendent non-existence which in the Son created eternal causes of everything. Among the perfect creation, God created the perfect man whom he gave almost an angelic nature and the transcendent identity. The essence of this identity is the fact the man was created as resemblance of God. This identity surpasses man because it does not come from creation, but from the Creator. The excellent man made a mistake and led to the fall of the creature and the human nature which started existing in sensory world. Merciful God has not turned away from the man and has not deprived him of a transcendent identity. The man, in which spiritual and bodily reality is interpenetrating alone can shape his identity, which according to Eriugeny, one should take back to the identity resulting from God's resemblance. In the absolute sense, man has a transcendent identity, and differences between people are due to the mortal world. In sensual reality, man can renew his divine resemblance and seek the right identity or blur that resemblance and do not care about the realization of identity, which can be understood as a gift and a vocation at the same time. Man never ceases to be human but may not pursue a vocation to a transcendent Identity.
