Analysis of the Relationship between Climate Change and the Number and Intensity of Forest Fires – a Literature Review

This paper quantitatively examines the publications that can be found in the Scopus databases on the very current topic of the relationship between climate change and the number and intensity of forest fires. The authors see this report as a first step in a more complex literature review of the issue, based on a combination of analysis of additional quantitative indicators and an in-depth examination of the logic of a more limited number of publications. The paper presents a detailed problem analysis of the interrelationship between climate change and the number and intensity of forest fires, the research methodology is presented, and a search for literary sources on the subject in the Scopus databases is performed. The 7 361 results obtained were subjected to a systematic quantitative analysis, and the following indicators were examined: annual scientific production (articles in Scopus); average citations per year; a list of sources (journals that publish most actively in the selected research area); h index and g index of these journals; sources' production over time; authors who publish most actively in the chosen research area; impact strength of these authors, according to their h-index, g-index, m-index, and total citations; number of citations of publications in journals that publish most actively in the selected research area. An analysis of the results was made, and conclusions were formulated.

The main thesis o f the paper is that the concept of ‘sociological system’ (a cornerstone in Bulgarian sociology in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s) could significantly increase its potential if we connect it with the Marxian idea, as developed by Merab Mamardashvili, of converted forms as a mechanism of the functioning of social systems as ‘systems with consciousness’. In that case, however, social systems should not be viewed as pre-given but as constructed by effects of the figuration of appearances, visibilities and pictures of visibility through which they are perceived and reproduced.

Българската масова приватизация и нейните социални ефекти 30 години по-късно през социологическа перспектива

The paper analyzes some long-term effects from the first wave of the mass privatization in Bulgaria. The analysis is based on results of national representative survey made in 2019, regarding the attitudes towards the results of the mass privatization. The main hypothesis of the analysis is that the majority of people who are contemporary of the privatization process does not evaluate the results of the mass privatization in Bulgaria as positive: not in regard to the participation of the citizens, nor regarding the state as a whole. The attitude of people who were not contemporary is mostly neutral. In the paper is also made a brief resume o f the mass privatization in the country based on public data of the Agency for Privatization.

Systematic planning of the maintenance of the road network in our country is an important and necessary prerequisite for achieving maximum social benefit. By updating and implementing the „Methodology for Determining the Economic Eficiency of Road Repair Projects in Bulgaria“, a mechanism for efective planning of investments in the road sector can be established in order to minimize the total road user costs and to realize savings for society.

The main goal is to emphasize the importance of their introduction and application in university education in response to modern social changes and the needs associated with them. The object of the study is university education, and the subject is innovative methods of teaching and training of students. The research method is a theoretical study and analysis of available theoretical and empirical researches on the problem, presented in the content of available scientific publications. Leading result of the study is the conclusion that theoretical scientific concepts justify and support contemporary methods of teaching and empirical researches verify and prove their importance, impact and effectiveness for improving the results of student learning at university.

Доверието в учените като измерител на качеството на висшето образование

This paper focuses on the extent to which higher education in Bulgaria contributes to the formation of the so-called „capacity for scientific reasoning“ and hence to trust in the scientific method and institutionalized science. It is assumed that trust in scientists is an indirect measure of the quality of higher education, insofar as one of the main functions of higher education is to develop science and scientific thinking, which in turn leads to the development of positive attitudes towards the application of the rules of the scientific method to real-world situations and positive attitudes about the role of scientists in society. Using data from the 10th wave of the European Social Survey for Bulgaria, it is demonstrated that the positive role of higher education is not as pronounced as in other countries and that there are preconditions for even questioning it. This raises a number of unresolved questions for the higher education system in the country, but most of all for the role of academics themselves.

The digitalization of the educational process and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for educational purposes are increasingly prevalent in Bulgarian schools. This report is aimed at analyzing the current state of use of AI and digital resources in the learning process and the opportunities for their implementation and adaptation in economic secondary schools and vocational high schools in the country and considering the possible prospects for their future use to achieve the best results. Specialized secondary schools and vocational high schools have been studied through a study of literary and online sources and conclusions have been drawn about the use of AI and digital resources in the learning process. Recommendations are given on the directions in which digitalization and the penetration of AI in learning and teaching processes could be expanded, and the weaknesses that their use may lead to. The main difficulties that accompany digitalization and the difficulties in introducing AI in the education of economic disciplines are outlined. An analysis of the digital technologies used and attitudes towards the application of AI in the educational process is made.

In this current article we strive to analyse the tendencies, direction and dynamics of improvement of educational pedagogics in the town of Kardzhali since its establishment till present days.We have tried to explain the impact, that educational pedagogics has on forming the town of Kardzhali as fundamental educational and cultural centre of Rhodopes. The development of traditions in training of teachers at elementary, junior high school and secondary school education in the town of Kardzhali has been ongoing for more than 60 years. In recent years, an attempt to establish new educational profiles has been made, with the purpose of motivating the young people, not only to stay in the town of Kardzhali, but to meet the requirements for employment. From the review of the development of educational pedagogics in the town of Kardzhali for more than 60 years, we can conclude that despite the decline and contraction of many of the town‘s characteristic social, cultural, and economic activities, educational pedagogics has maintained its level. However, this still does not give us the right to speak of the competitiveness of educational pedagogics in the town of Kardzhali compared to that in other cities in the country.

Дигитализация и дигитална среда: измерения и основни характеристики

This article aims to reveal digitalization as an integral part of society. Every process, phenomenon, community, relationship is largely related to digitalization and information technologies. The analysis presents various forms of symbiosis between society and digitalization, showing specific dimensions of digital competencies and skills. The methodology based on results obtained from an online survey conducted in March 2021 with individuals of different ages, professions and education. The study includes topics related to the digitalization of society, the use of various digital devices and the Internet. The results obtained indicate that the digitalization of society is a real fact, as well as that the state of digital skills is at an average and above average level, and the Internet is used very actively in various activities. The article and the conducted survey were implemented under the project „Digital media literacy in the context of the „knowledge society“: state and challenges“, funded by the National Science Foundation in the period 2018-2022.

This report analyzes models for measuring cultural differences by comparing Hofstede’s approach with the Global Collectivism Index (GCI). Although Hofstede’s model has made a significant contribution to the study of cultures, its nature fails to capture the contemporary dynamics of cultural change. Developed to eliminate Western biases, the GCI offers a more comprehensive analysis of collectivism across different countries. The report highlights Bulgaria’s complex cultural identity and concludes that the GCI is a more suitable tool for macro-level analysis of cultural trends in the context of globalization.

Влияние на членството на България в Шенген върху миграционните потоци

The report analyzes the impact of Bulgaria‘s Schengen membership on migration flows. The full entry into the Schengen area from January 1, 2025 and the abolition of border controls with Romania and Greece will facilitate the crossing of people and goods, but will also create new challenges for the security of the external borders with Turkey and Serbia. The main elements of the study are the analysis of illegal migration, migration routes and the challenges and opportunities for eliminating risks for Bulgaria. The analysis shows that in 2024. there was a decrease in the total number of illegal crossings compared to the previous year. Despite the strengthened border control and cooperation with Frontex, the report emphasizes the importance of investments in new technologies and enhanced cooperation with the European Union (EU).

The report examines the situation of unaccompanied refugee children in Bulgaria over the last 6 years (2019 to 2024), covering the latest refugee wave to Europe. As children with multiple vulnerabilities, unaccompanied children seeking international protection need comprehensive support, including first and foremost a family environment and inclusion in the education system. Data show that in Bulgaria unaccompanied refugee children remain not only outside the education system, but also outside the protection system, whose role is to guarantee the fundamental rights of the child. Unaccompanied children are hardly recognizable as children from institutions, and the parallel system in place to guarantee their lives and well-being faces serious challenges to cope.

За социалното значение на проституцията

The text considers prostitution as a social phenomenon that requires sociological understanding and analysis. This statement stems from the social embeddedness of prostitution in the social structure and human relationships, regardless of the historical and socio-economic stage of their development. The report presents a summary of various sociological interpretations of the phenomenon under study – some of them view it as an expression of the commodification of human relationships and considering people as means in the capitalist system; others define it as structurally inseparable from the institution of marriage; still others draw attention to contemporary transformations in economic and cultural life, which have led to a change in the meaning that people attach to intimate relationships. Regardless of the prism through which prostitution is interpreted, it cannot be denied that today it has significantly increased in scale, has become a profitable industry and has significant economic and social importance. All this requires an analysis of various aspects (moral, legal, social, criminological) and opens up a field for the development not only of a sociology of prostitution, but also for the inclusion of the topic in a broader public and expert debate.
