Health Potential for Employment of People to Later Age

Author(s): Rossitsa Rangelova / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

Increasing life expectancy and ageing population put fiscal challenges facing government programs for social security and create a need for policy to extend the retirement age. The large-scale and long-time worked out project “International Social Security“ (ISS) studies these problems including 12 developed countries in the world. The project is organized by the National Bureau of Economic Research, supported by the National Institute on Ageing of the Population in the United States. The article considers part of the project, in particular empirical work on the seventh stage, which is focused on health as a potential of older people to increase their employment to a later age. The subject of the study is the population aged mainly 55-69. Two alternative methods and an additional approach based on self-assessment of health are applied. The results obtained show that people in pre-retirement and retirement age have significant additional health potential to work to a later age.

Potential Emigration in Bulgaria and Social Acceptance of Foreign Immigrants in the Country

Author(s): Yordan Kalchev / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

During the last three decades, international migration is a key factor in the demographic development of Bulgaria. Even though its impact decreases in the last few years, it still continues to reduce the Bulgarian population, and, through its selective functions, to introduce significant negative changes in important structures of the population, which are vital for its reproduction and labour power. It is crucial for the implementation of a certain migration policy not only to determine the scales of the migration flows in and out of the country, but also to study the people’s attitude to emigrate; the conditions and drivers that cause the migration processes, and the associated effects and changes in their scale and composition; people’s attitude toward Bulgarian and foreign migrants; other elements in the general migration behaviour. These and other issues are the subject of this paper. The current analysis is based on empirical data from the “Migration and national identity” survey, which was conducted in May 2018.

Encouraging the Investment Activity in High Value-Added Economic Sectors and Activities in Conditions of Demographic Restrictions of the Labour Force in Bulgaria

Author(s): Iskra Beleva / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The decrease in the labor force as a result of the on-going demographic processes of decrease in the natural growth rate of the population and the sustainable emigration raises a series of questions about the possibilities to achieve better balancing of the demand and supply for labor through restructuring of employment. The goal of the study is to conduct an immediate situational analysis of the opinions of the main “players” in the investment process in order to examine, analyze and assess the investment environment and the stimuli for creating more jobs in sectors and activities with higher added value. The main thesis is that creating more jobs with higher productivity of labor and higher wages could be a successful policy for better balancing of the demand and supply of labor, for compensation of the shortage of labor force and for improvement of its quality. The better working conditions and the higher wages are prerequisites for improving the quality of life, which is an important condition for stimulating the reproduction of the population and for decreasing emigration intentions. The study presents economic arguments for the need for more active stimulation of the investments in economic activities and sectors that create higher added value on the basis of an analysis of various aspects of the structure of the economy; created added value; employed labor force; share of highly technological exports in total export and others. The analysis indicates that the dynamic of job creation in sectors that generate added value is not sufficient, which also conditions the lagging behind of the country in a series of indicators for science intensity and innovation in the European space. These conclusions are supplemented by the results from in-depth interviews, conducted with representatives of branch organizations, employers, local authorities and national institutions, which focused on the conditions and stimuli for investment in sectors and activities with high value added. The summary of the voiced opinions and assessments allows for the synthesis of key aspects of policies that encourage the improvement of the environment and stimulate the creation of workplaces in sectors and activities that create higher value added.

Author(s): Vanya Lozanova-Stancheva / Language(s): English,Bulgarian,Greek, Modern (1453-) Issue: 1/2019

Ancient authors often define the man through nutrition and politics, which makes them closely related. Food played a particularly important role in the ancient Hellenic thinking and behavior model. Dietary culture means how food is produced in local conditions, climate, relief, how it is handled, when and how people eat, what is the social context of nutrition, what appliances for preparing and serving food are used ... But food and nutrition have their own social context in which a broad aspect of a variety of forms of communication is realized. The article is an attempt to reconstruct the rhythm of eating and social-political reflexes in his specific forms of communication.

Проблематизиране на идентичността – балкански и европейски измерения

Author(s): Veselin Bosakov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2019

This article is focused on several sets of themes, in which greater analytic clarity is sought. The first set of themes is related to the meanings of identity in different contexts. The second concerns the relationship between nationalism and national identity. The author has applied a nuanced approach to nationalism, emphasizing the characteristics that distinguish it as a political principle, or as an ideological framework, or as a tool of populist manipulation. Treating the nation as a biological fact leads to ethno-national identity, a pathological form of national identity that may lead to assimilation, emigration, disadvantaged status of minorities or physical elimination.

Socjalizacja i wychowanie. W poszukiwaniu genezy wychowania (perspektywa ewolucyjna)

Socjalizacja i wychowanie. W poszukiwaniu genezy wychowania (perspektywa ewolucyjna)

Author(s): Heliodor Muszyński / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2022

The author deals with the problem of differences in meaning between the concepts of socialization and education. In social sciences, and especially in educational sciences, there is no agreement as to the relationship between the scopes of these two fundamental concepts. The article attempts to overcome these semantic difficulties by adopting an evolutionary perspective in line with the assumption that education emerged as a specific type of socialization in human prehistory. The search of its essential properties (and thus differences), was guided by the cognitive directive of Aristotle, according to which “the best understanding of things is achieved by those who study them at their inception”. The article uses the method of data analysis established in numerous studies on social and cultural human development, starting from the earliest stages of life in primitive groups. Socialization appeared in these groups as a way of transmitting collective experience, and thus culture, necessary for their survival. The continuation of the analysis leads to investigating what factors made this culturation take a different form, namely that of education. As it turns out, this difference is difficult to discern in the intentionality of cultural influences. It appears only when the group becomes aware of the need to adapt adolescents to fulfill various social roles. This already requires going beyond socialization, which is always a spontaneous process including widespread participation of group members in the transmission of an experience that is also common. In order to provide selected group members with selected elements of the experience linked to their social role, the group must appoint competent members for the transfer of the experience selected to perform specific social roles. These activities constitute one more role distinguished in the group – the role of the educator. And the activities that make up their performance are education.

The aim of the study was to investigate the communication process between the tourist office and the client. The paper characterizes the basic definitions and selected models of the theory of the communication process. The survey was conducted in the period from February to April 2020, on a group of 76 clients of the selected tourist office. The respondents were selected at random. The satisfaction with the quality of the communication process between the tourist office employee and the client was determined, as well as the prospects for further cooperation. A smoothly running communication process between tourist office employees and the clients is very important. Every effort should be made to minimize the impact of potential barriers, so that both parties can achieve the intended benefits and will be satisfied with such cooperation. Based on the research, the clients were divided into individual groups. Each group consisted of people who share common personal characteristics and a specific approach to service. In the interview, the topic of a “difficult client” was also raised.

Most of the children entering the first grade know each other, but there are some for whom the group is new. They confront not only with their new duties but also with strangers around them with whom they spend almost the whole day. Children who are from another ethnicity, apart from everything listed, have to face another challenge - they are into an environment where the spoken language is not their mother language. They start to build relationships that have different aspects - competition, hostility, mutual assistance, empathy, etc. As soon as they get to know each other and make friends with other children, they feel more relaxed. The article explores whether affinity relationships (matching individuals, ideas, interests) have been created among Bulgarian and Roma third grade students.

Роль языковых средств при описании польско-российских отношений в текстах, посвященных теме Катыни (на материале „Газеты Выборча” за период 1989–1999 гг.)

Author(s): Dmitrii Lukianov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2022

In order to form a certain image, media employ various linguistic means, such as metaphors, comparative structures, etc. Based on the material from “Gazeta Wyborcza” concerning the topic of the Katyn massacre, the present study attempts to reconstruct the image of Polish-Russian relations and decide what role the linguistic means used in the articles play in creating the discussed phenomenon. As a result the author concludes that there are two points of view about Russia presented in “Gazeta Wyborcza”. On the one hand, Russia is a criminal country and a debtor that cannot fulfil its obligations. On the other hand, Russia is a state that is open for cooperation and capable of helping. There are also two different points of view about the Polish-Russian relationships. As stated by some experts, Polish-Russian relations in the analyzed period are characterized as negative. According to the other opinions (prior to the 2022 war), these relations are getting better and perhaps will continue to improve.

Образователните клъстери като форма за реализация на иновативни политики и практики в образованието и квалификацията на учителите

Author(s): Galya Kozhuharova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2017

Education in the contemporary world is facing many challenges brought about by globalization and rapid technological development. Universities and schools are preparing students, university staff and teachers to implement modern educational processes. Educational institutions are expected to apply innovative technologies in education, and yet to meet the needs, and understand the mindset of today's students. These processes are enhanced by the rapid development of information and communication technologies.Naturally, solutions to all these problems cannot be found easily. What is needed is an integration of institutions interested in educational development. Clusters, and in particular educational clusters, facilitate this phenomenon. The article discusses the specifics of educational cluster formation as a form of introducing innovative policies and practices in education and teacher training. Presented are the types of educational clusters and their role in the development of innovation management in education. Proposed is an exemplary educational cluster structure of continuing education and teacher training, based on the experience of the Department of Information and In-service Teacher Training at Trakia University, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Summarized are methodological recommendations for the implementation of cluster policy in the field of education in Bulgaria.

The inverted logic as a source of carnival familiarity

The inverted logic as a source of carnival familiarity

Author(s): Kamil Lipiński / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

In breaking away from the dominant rituals, the sanctioned church holidays, and traditional rules of behavior, the article analyzes the placement of carnival culture on the margins of official culture, the inversion of social principles introduced into a reality devoid of constitutive norms in normal life, eliminating any social division by reversing values and destroying the existing order. A historical perspective raises important questions about the unparalleled features of the carnival, including the combination of people, regardless of their social and intellectual differences. In line with the adoption of the culture of laughter and its tools, the dynamics of carnival managed to assume a reversal, degradation, grotesque, bottom-up logic in order to bring people together and facilitate their interpersonal relationships.

MOTIVATION INFLUENCING DECISION TO LEARN KOREAN LANGUAGE AMONG CHIANG MAI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Author(s): Sayamon SORNSUWANNASRI / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2020

The objectives of this research are to investigate motivations that influence a decision to learn Korean language, and post-graduation expectations of 102 students studying Korean in Chiang Mai University. A questionnaire was conducted on the students’ motivation behind their decision to learn the Korean language and their expectations for Korean language learning after graduation. It was found that the type of motivation that has the highest influence over their Korean language learning is self-motivation, and they are also motivated by curriculum and institutes, the ‘Korean Wave’ and the society, defined as social motivation, respectively. Their highest post-graduation expectation for Korean language learning is the ability to converse fluently with Korean people, while the ability to understand Korean songs/dramas/variety programs, the ability to understand Korean society and culture, the ability to get a job using the Korean language, the opportunity to study in South Korea and the opportunity to have new friends are the next highest expectations successively.

ROLE OF CRIMINAL PROFILERS IN CRISIS SITUATIONS

ROLE OF CRIMINAL PROFILERS IN CRISIS SITUATIONS

Author(s): Željko Bjelajac,Aleksandar Filipović / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

Although the first true criminal psychological profile was created less than 70 years ago, and the first unit whose task was to help solve challenging and complicated crimes by analyzing psychological aspects was created about 50 years ago, today we cannot imagine the work of any law enforcement service without the significant contribution of psychological profilers. On the other hand, the number and type of security threats have grown exponentially in the same period, and although it is not possible to react to one part of those threats on time and prevent them, for the other part of those threats there is enough space and time that by engaging profilers, and in certain crisis situations, such as hostage crises, be it terrorist attacks, bank robberies, or other situations in which the perpetrators of such acts take hostages, by engaging a specific subtype of profilers – the negotiators, increase the chances for a peaceful resolution of the crisis situation and prevention of loss of human lives, which is of paramount interest in humane societies. The aim of this paper is to investigate the role of profiler-negotiator in crisis situations with a criminal background, using a hypothetical-deductive model and methods of analysis of primary and secondary sources, as well as qualitative, quantitative, comparative analysis, with the starting hypothesis that using techniques and methods of psychological profiling and negotiations in crisis situations with a criminal basis and background, the probability of a positive outcome, peaceful resolution of the crisis situation and damage control drastically increases.

THE ROLE OF SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT

THE ROLE OF SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT

Author(s): Sandra Dabić,Đorđe Spasojević,Milka Radulović,Zoran Radulović / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

Child abuse is an age-old phenomenon, which is confirmed by the data from art, literature, and science from many parts of the world. There are reports on infanticide, mutilation, abandonment and other forms of violence found in many historical records of unkempt, weak, and malnourished children who were left by families to take care of themselves. Those records also make note of charity organisations and groups, as well as others that were involved in ensuring the welfare and providing protection for the children. Social institutions are institutions that ought to be the first link in the chain of providing help and care for children and minors, but at the same time, they are institutions that work on reducing the occurrences of abuse of minors in society in general. Today, there is clear evidence that child abuse is a global problem which comes in different forms and is, unfortunately, deeplyrooted in cultural, economic and social practices. Solving this global problem, however, requires a much better understanding of its occurrences in a range of environments, as well as its causes and effects in said environments. In this paper, by applying the method of quantitative and qualitative content analysis, we will review and analyse concepts of child abuse and neglect, the forms in which they come, as well as analyse the role of social institutions, with a special focus on Centres for Social Work. The creative aim of the paper is to recognise the problem of child neglect and abuse which demands an efficient response by the wider social community.
