The text investigates the prevalence of neoconservatism among the population of Serbia, as an assumption enabling a political conservative turn. Having in mind that the evaluation of the prevalence of a phenomenon is a relational category, here the prevalence of neoconservatism has been measured, on one hand, in relation to the period of ten and/or fifteen years ago and, on the other hand, in relation to the current prevalence of other ideologies among the population of Serbia. The comparative framework has been constructed and measuring instruments have been adapted to secondary data collected within other studies.

The aim of the paper is to point out the good and bad sides of the changes that have occurred in the market and in the media with the occurrence of digitization. The analysis starts with the fact 1) that with digitization the market and the media are getting a powerful tool that gives many benefits in comparison with the pre-Internet age, but also with the fact 2) that this tool has its downside. Research shows that, on the same digital platform, millions of people often fall into addiction and, consequently, into depression. The most used method in the work was the analysis, especially sentiment analysis, as well as content analysis, and synthesis. Due to such strong and profound changes, it is necessary to analyze social trends and the consequences of those changes. It refers particularly to the addiction to social networks and media.

The paper discusses the level of social inclusion of Romani people in Serbia as a critical indicator of social cohesion. Historical and current statistical data show that Romani people in Serbia, as well as in other European countries, have centuries long experience of marginalization and discrimination. Since the 1970s, the political and institutional conditions for their cultural, political and social affirmation have been gradually constructed. With the growth of their visibility and homogeneousity, it became even more important to include Romani people in society and economy and thus to achieve higher level of social cohesion. Since 2000, many results have been achieved in the social inclusion of Romani people in Serbia in key areas (education, employment, economic empowerment, housing, anti-discrimination), but the state of affairs is still far from desirable. The main problem lies in political culture – stereotypes and prejudices about Romani people and marginalization and occasional discrimination based on them. Such political culture hampers the strengthening of social cohesion in Serbia.

A sociological portrait of the Romani Toma the Traffic Light Man, a windshield wiper on one of the central intersections in the city of Niš. He is an interesting figure, a city guy, poor as a church mouse, very observant and picky, a bit of a buffoon, somewhat reluctant and apprehensive, protected by his guardians; he has a delineated area of operation, he has been skillful with his squeegee from his childhood, he does what he likes to do in order to survive, he earns a pretty penny, and he is the envy of many. He does not yearn for compassion, he is rarely stigmatized, he is not impudent or bad-tempered, he does not impose on people or protest, his profession is underestimated but not at all easy, he is not messy or slipshod, he does not like misers, he does not loiter around the traffic lights or smoke. Toma the Traffic Light Man is at the forefront of the squeegee men, he towers above regular cleaners that we meet daily in Serbian towns. He did not establish the profession known as the squeegee man – he is just the best specimen, the ideal type.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the factors of social inclusion of the elderly who live in Belgrade. Therefore, a research, using a questionnaire, which included 781 elderly persons living in Belgrade, was conducted in 2019. The dimensions of their health, living standard and financial situation, as well as the quality of life and social participation, were in the focus of the research. Basic findings point to a negative correlation between years of life and all measured outcomes; a positive correlation between their education and subjective assessment of the quality of life and objective measure of social participation in the community; as well as an absence of gender differences in dependent variables, except for the mobility.

The child protection system is still one of the major challenges in the legislative field, case management, specialized practices involved, interdisciplinary approach. One of the aspects that requires a systematic preparation, a child-centered approach and the ability to plan for the medium and long-term goals is the preparation of the young person's transition from the institutional system to the independent life. The post-de-institutionalization period benefits from a monitoring of the young people, which extends over a period of maximum six months, after which the trajectory of these persons is no longer followed by the state institutions. Consequently, the level of socio-professional integration of this category of young people cannot be evaluated. The present research addresses through a qualitative approach the success indicators regarding the socio-professional integration for a group of young people who have left the child protection system. Not all the young people who were part of the sample managed to integrate socio-professionally: some of them are still dependent on the services and social benefits provided by the state. However, the results of the research prove an extraordinary resilience among the young people who spent their childhood and adolescence in residential child protection units in Romania during 1976-2018, despite the long traumas and the extreme abuses that they went through. The article illustrates through numerous examples the power of those who were considered "children of the system" to transform the risk factors they were subjected to, in future success indicators.

The article presents the results of a survey that verifies the linguistic intuition of speakers of Bulgarian as a native language of defective plural forms of nouns with abstract-event and collecting meaning. Linguistic intuition involves both assessments of correctness and acceptability, as they depend on the norms that the speaker knows and obeys. The results of the survey show that there is still not enough reason to predict a change in the morphological category of the number of abstract and collective nouns, although fluctuations in the use of nouns with a defective plural will be exacerbated by the influence of media speech.

From the first discoveries of fossil fuels in the late nineteenth century to the present, the importance of energy resources has been gaining global proportions, not only in economic, political and social terms, but has become an indispensable aspect of national and international security. Energy has become an important factor in international cooperation (gas pipelines, oil pipelines), but also of open and covert conflicts and tensions (oil shocks, gas crises, economic sanctions). The work analyzes the development of theoretical directions for post-Second World War security studies and its weaknesses in understanding the importance and role of energy security in complex international relations. The aim of the work is to analyze and explain energy resources as an important factor of national and international security and its interdependence and complexity of economic, military, political, social and ecological phenomena with the aid of sector theory and global sociological approach.

The collage of Bourdieu’s debates and polemics (Signals of Lights ~ Signals of Lights 2) most expressively illustrates how sociology of knowledge is organically connected with political sociology, or sociology of symbolic power his work; the unity of theory and practice is achieved in an aspiration to reaffirm the engaged role of the sociologist’s profession, renew the role of intellectuals and form a new European social movement. Although he thought that today “it is not always easy to achieve the ideal of the collective intellectual”, which he aspired to identify with, Bourdieu hoped that his critical reflections and polemical interventions, as the “lit signals of lights”, may “serve as a useful weapon to all those who are trying to resist the neoliberal scourge… if not hoping to move a mobilization… at least to destroy the impression of unanimity that constitutes the essence of the symbolic picture of the dominant discourse” (Bourdieu, 2019, pp. 41-42).

This paper is an attempt to characterize and assess the rector’s competence as far as disciplinary responsibility of an academic teacher is concerned. The attempt to evaluate the controlling mechanism of the rector’s legal decisions was also undertaken. The legal range of the rector’s disciplinary competence is relevant from the point of view of the correct and effective decision making with regards to public higher education institution duties.

The Law on Higher Education and Science states that article 251 of the Labour Code which concerns the limitation of employment based on employment agreements for a definite time, on one hand, does not apply to first-time employed university teachers, to teachers for whom universities are not the main place of work nor teachers who are pensioners. On the other hand, the regulations of this article are still in effect with regard to the rest of university teachers and all other employees thereof. This solution cannot be positively evaluated due to its legislative inappropriateness in such aspects as excluding regulations concerning the limitation of employment based on employment agreements for a definite time and the results of exceeding those limits with simultaneous inclusion of regulations establishing exceptions to limits and employer’s obligations to implement them; and due to the legislation’s content such as inapplicability of article 251 of the Labour Code to the teachers for whom universities are not the main place of work and teachers who are pensioners, without adopting any type of mechanism excluding the excessive employment of these employee groups based on renewal of employment agreements for a definite time, as required by directive 99/70/EC. It is advisable to introduce changes in this field. It seems particularly worth noting that the proposal of enumerative determination in the Law on Higher Education and Science of cases in which university teachers could be employed under employment agreements for a definite time.

The Law on Higher Education and Science of 2018 is the ninth act regulating the employment of academic teachers in Poland. This Act does not introduce a breakthrough in the model of employing academic teachers although it introduces significant changes. They concern the employment contract as the basis of the employment relationship or a new catalogue of academic teacher positions. The new regulations raise a number of doubts regarding e.g. the duties of academic teachers, the impact of public or private status of the university on the situation of employees and intertemporal issues. These issues were analysed in the article.
