Education and research into the history of Slavonic studies in Poland in the past and in the present have taken place on three levels: the general developmental trends in Polish historiography as the leading Slavic historiography, the scale of interest in the other Slavs living in the Polish Commonwealth and the positions of the other Slavic states and nations in Polish historiography and historical education. Research into the history of Slavonic studies in Poland enjoys a noble tradition. Its origin goes back to the late 18th and the early 19th centuries. The research gained institutional support in the second half of the 19th century. In the 20th century, Polish Slavonic studies were rejuvenated in the interwar period, after 1945 (to the largest degree) and after 1989. This was reflected primarily in the notably increasing number of publications. Sadly, the quality of the research remains inferior.

The aim of this paper is to reconsider the meaning of two title concepts of essential importance for the development of the European thought. The author makes an attempt to reconstruct the origin of Greek reflection referring to Paideia written by Werner Jaeger, German classicist and philosopher from the first half of the twentieth century. Starting with the mythical sources of education, connected with the Minoan tradition reinterpreted by Zbigniew Herbert, the author goes on to present the mnemonic sense of the epic Catalogue of Ships from the second book of Iliad by Homer and subsequently discusses cathartic educational tradition and its reference to Pythagoreanism and Heraclitism. He subsequently discusses the stage of education constituted by the Athenian sophists connected with the utilitarianism of Protagoras and its development and transgression achieved by Socratic elenchus and maieutic. Platonian proposal of turning paideia into the integrity of the Greek polis culture was presented as the culmination of the idea of the Hellenic education. It had to prepare the soul of the disciple for the acceptance of the uttermost pattern of arete. For Plato it was the affection for ideas, notably noble virtue of aspiration to triple unity (trinity) of the Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. Wilhelm von Humboldt renewed classical paideia and established the idea of Bildung to join education with inner self‑development and not only personal but also cultural maturation. The importance of connection between paideia and Bildung was also underlined by two quoted writers: Karl Jaspers (German co‑founder of existentialism) and W.H. Auden (English‑American poet). In conclusion, the author poses a question whether postmodern contesting of classical and enlightenment ideals of education (paideia and Bildung) has any purpose and whether the quest for the principle of the universe based on the universal logos can be still considered reasonable. He also wonders whether traditional search for the Truth, Beauty, and Goodness can actually compete with narrowly understood, effective technological practice. In his humble opinion this question must be left without any conclusive answer. Nawiązując do pracy Paideia Wernera Jaegera, niemieckiego filologa i filozofa z pierwszej połowy dwudziestego wieku, autor dokonuje próby rekonstrukcji genezy greckiego myślenia. Zaczynając od mitycznych źródeł edukacji, związanych z tradycją minojską, reinterpretowaną przez Zbigniewa Herberta, autor przechodzi do mnemotechnicznego znaczenia słynnej listy okrętów zawartej w drugiej księdze Iliady Homera. Następnie zostaje omówiona katarktyczna tradycja edukacyjna związana z pitagoreizmem i heraklityzmem. Kolejny omówiony etap stanowi ateńska sofistyka związana z utylitaryzmem Protagorasa oraz jej rozwinięcie i przekroczenie, jakie stanowiła sokratejska elenktyka i majeutyka.

The article presents therapeutic actions toward restoring linguistic and communicative competence, and its aim is to show how music therapy enriches the methods of speech‑language rehabilitation. The rise of music therapy and speech‑language pathology as scientific disciplines was gradual and started almost exactly at the same juncture, i.e. at the beginning of the 20th century. The origins of both go back in time to the remote past, and both are characterized by an interdisciplinary nature. The methods of music therapy are in line with the speech‑language therapy scenario:– eurhythmics, initially supporting education and upbringing, stimulates psychomotor development in a versatile manner,– speech‑movement therapy supports general and motor development and aids speech capabilities,– the Good Start method is applied for children with reading and writing difficulties and has a corrective‑compensatory influence,– mobile music recreation stimulates the development of children suffering from cerebral palsy,– high‑frequency sounds in the Tomatis method have a therapeutic effect for memory disorders, school‑related difficulties, dyslexia, autism, and emotional disorders,– singing, which is a traditional method of music therapy, is widely applied in speech therapy for neurological disorders and in the treatment of stammering, as well as in psychosocial rehabilitation.

The aim of the study was to present new diagnostic methods of evaluation of voice activity for phoniatrists’ and speech therapists’ needs. The voice formation depends not only on the correct contraction and vibration of the vocal cords, which reinforce the acoustic Energy of the fundamental tone, but also on the function of the resonant cavities and articulatory organs, affecting the timbre and the production of sound elements of speech, that is sounds. The European Society of Laryngology has proposed a diagnostic protocol since 2001. It recommends: videolaryngostroboscopy (VLS), acoustic examination and voice self‑assessment, except for interview and physical examination. Examination of acoustic parameters allows for objective analysis of the larynx tone. This is an important and only advantage of this method. Comprehensive voice analysis includes subjective and objective examinations, evaluating, based on GRBAS scale, the voice character and different modifications of voice malfunction, that specify functional, emotional and physical condition of examined person, may determine how the extent of the voice disorder may affect quality of life. They allow to determine proper etiology, make a diagnosis, plan the treatment schedule and follow up voice disorder effects of treatment.

The problems of speech and language disorders on children with central nervous system disorders are dealt with in the literature of the subject from the perspective of various disciplines – medicine, linguistics, pedagogy, psychology and speech therapy. However, there are no clear definitions in the literature of semantic terms, the clinical picture, the substance of the disorder and their etiopathogenesis. Diagnosis of raised disorders in neurologically impaired children is a structured and multi‑specialist procedure using neurological, linguistic and psychological data, further impeded by ambiguity in the criteria for their description. In practice, a variety of approaches to naming and defining these disorders often stumbles on the discrepancies in the diagnosis, which leads to errors in communication between specialists. This article discusses the case of a four‑year‑old child with intrauterine hypothyroidism and second‑degree intraventricular haemorrhage with speech and language disorders, the example of which is terminological discrepancies.Problematyka zaburzeń mowy i języka u dzieci z uszkodzeniami centralnego układu nerwowego rozpatrywana jest w literaturze przedmiotu z perspektywy różnych dyscyplin naukowych – medycyny, językoznawstwa, pedagogiki, psychologii i logopedii. W artykule omówiono przypadek dziecka czteroletniego z hipotrofią wewnątrzmaciczną i krwawieniem dokomorowym II stopnia, z występującymi zaburzeniami mowy i języka. Na jego przykładzie wskazano rozbieżności terminologiczne.
