Education and research into the history of Slavonic studies in Poland in the past and in the present have taken place on three levels: the general developmental trends in Polish historiography as the leading Slavic historiography, the scale of interest in the other Slavs living in the Polish Commonwealth and the positions of the other Slavic states and nations in Polish historiography and historical education. Research into the history of Slavonic studies in Poland enjoys a noble tradition. Its origin goes back to the late 18th and the early 19th centuries. The research gained institutional support in the second half of the 19th century. In the 20th century, Polish Slavonic studies were rejuvenated in the interwar period, after 1945 (to the largest degree) and after 1989. This was reflected primarily in the notably increasing number of publications. Sadly, the quality of the research remains inferior.

In Botswana, the costs and requirements to study full-time are very high. Not everyone can afford to study full-time without forfeiting their current roles, for example, in 1999 the Center for Continuing Education (CCE) in Botswana launched a Diploma in Primary Education distance education programme, to upgrade academic and professional qualifications of some 8000 primary certificate holders to diploma level. However, those teachers could not be released to attend courses in conventional institutions without compromising primary school work progress (Nage-Sibande, 2005: 250). Sometimes work and family life are core determinants to furthering education. Universities provide opportunities for students to choose their mode of learning as well as setting their pace of study. The University of Botswana (UB) like many other universities around the globe offers students the option to study and carry out other life commitments at the same time. This is in realization of the fact that learning part-time is a very important alternative and an opportunity for people to continue learning while they go on with their normal workloads and family or community responsibilities (Nage-Sibande, 2005). This paper will focus on students pursuing Part-time Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies programme (DABS) based at different geographical locations in the country. It is intended to discuss the plight of these students with regards to their lack of participation in the information literacy skills programme (ILS) offered to full-time undergraduate students as well as the inadequate access to both Information and Communication Technology and library resources. The paper will also discuss how their lack of access to ICT resources continues to widen the digital divide between those having access and those without access. Based on the authors’ past participation in the teaching of ILS to DABS students it will discuss the pivotal role played by UB staff in the teaching of Information Literacy Skills (ILS) to DABS students as well as the collaborations and partnerships between librarians and other stakeholders such as the Extra Mural Unit of the Center for Continuing Education (CCE); Communication and Study Skills Unit (CSSU) and Computer Science which made it possible for Librarians to actively participate in the teaching of ILS. Further, the paper will discuss the problems experienced regarding issues of student support and access to and provision of resources, which are essential to the successful provision of courses taken by part-time students. Lastly, the paper will discuss efforts made by the CCE, North branch library, in Francistown, which is the outreach arm of the Department of Library Services at UB, in ensuring that library materials are provided to satellite centers outside Francistown through Technical Colleges, and the challenges experienced in the process.

The material of this issue is a selection of lectures held at the conference of the Language and Communication Doctoral Program within the Doctoral School of Linguistics of the University of Pécs. The conference, in line with the main objective of the doctoral program, considered the cultural analysis of continuities and discontinuities observed between "old" and "new" media culture. How do traditional media and media genres change in the technological, social, and cultural environment defined by new media? What institutional and organizational transformations occur in the different stages of cultural production and reception? What new cultural norms are created when consuming media culture products? Among other things, the answers to these questions were based on case studies based on various empirical researches.

The goal of this paper is to establish a new area of Media Studies: the media narratology of self-narratives. I present an overview of self narratives in every medium (journalism, comic books, radio, television, new media, etc.). There are researches in some of these areas, but I propose a holistic, comparative approach of self narratives. I examine the possibilities of self narration in the aforementioned mediums, so the mediativity and medialization are essential terms in my approach.

Compared to artworks preserved in museums, the obsolescence of technical devices is considerably faster, and those media artworks belong to our cultural heritage. The most vulnerable works in the collection of Ludwig Museum are photographs, prints and media works. In Hungary, media art does not only mean software-based or digital art. Before the regime change in 1989, photography was the only available media. Earlier documentation of a performance is becoming artwork today, as exclusive evidence of an artistic action. In most cases, to not show an artwork simply means not allowing it to come into being at all. In a series of interviews with artists, this paper has been interested in issues which try to uncover the meaning and the context. The methodology of collecting, presenting, conserving media art are entirely new fields for professionals working in Hungarian public collections. What do we have to preserve, and what is it that truly matters? Well... These are the questions we strive to answer.
