Партиципиални и/или глаголни морфеми

Author(s): Desislava Dimitrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2021

This study deals with an issue that is significant in view of the buildup of word morphological structure, something frequently neglected by investigators, viz., morphemes encoding specific grammatical meanings of Bulgarian participles, which indicate in a specific way why participial forms belong to a separate lexeme class. Of course, there are authors who have discussed participial morphostructure (Pashov 1976, Vatov 1992, Kutsarov 2012, Kutsarov, I. 2007, Aleksova 2012, etc.). However, almost all of them (save Kutsarov, K. 2012, 2019) interpret the grammatical function of participial morphemes through the prism of the verb, i.e., if the participle is part of the verb form composed. Thus the study sets two basic goals: to describe the morphemic classification of Bulgarian participles according to their traditional description in the verb paradigm; to analyze relational and classification morphemes that belong to participles – morphemes that differentiate participles from adjectives and verbs.

Author(s): Nadya Cherneva,Boryana Tencheva / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2021

The following article explores the usage and transformations of various connotative units in the contemporary Bulgarian and Russian TV advertisement discourse. The role of precedent phenomena (precedent texts, precedent statements, precedent names, precedent situations) is defined in the mirror of intertextuality and interdiscursivity. The theoretical part of this work includes different definitions, on the basis of which the linguocultural units (from classical literature, fairy tales, movies, lyrics of songs, sayings, phraseology, statements of famous people and advertisement) in both languages are grouped according to the classification advanced and their sources of origin and modifications. The different types of structural and semantic changes in their combinations are studied.

Немските лексикални единици, съдържащи суфиксоида -weise, и техните еквиваленти в българския език

Author(s): Elena Nikolova-Kiskinova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2021

Our research interest was provoked by a group of lexical units typical of the German language, containing the productive suffix -weise. These words represent an open system, the representatives of which show a high frequency of use, and nuance the sentence meaning in a distinctive way. The present comparative study between the two unrelated languages, based on a corpus of excerpts from the original fiction and published translated texts from and into German, aims to identify and analyze possible options for precise bilateral translation of the respective lexical items. The analysis made is extremely useful and necessary to overcome the difficulties identified in the course of teaching German as a foreign language, and contributes to the formulation of clear concepts for achieving accurate equivalent translation.

Author(s): Mariyana Tsibranska-Kostova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2021

When understanding the complex social processes in the Principality of Bulgaria at the end of the 19th century, the medieval legal literary-linguistic heritage was realized as a foundation for the creation of an academic style in legal science after the Bulgarian Revival. The article aims to analyze how this occurs in the personal practice of P. Odzhakov, in particular in his selective excerpts from Old Bulgarian laws (1892), how the Bulgarian legal terminology develops from the Middle to the Modern Ages. It focusses on translation decisions of the jurist in comparison with the Greek originals, the Old Bulgarian representatives, as well as other modern languages.

Категориални и некатегориални значения на рода, числото и падеа при личните местоимения (руско-български паралели)

Author(s): Encho Tilev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2021

The object of this study are the categories gender, number and case of personal pronouns in Russian and Bulgarian. It is well known that the two languages have a common genealogy, which determines the presence of many similarities in their grammatical structures. While the verb as part of speech, for example, has significant differences, Russian and Bulgarian personal pronouns function in a similar way. The categorial and non-categorial meanings are considered entirely in the theory of functional grammar of A. V. Bondarko, and in Bulgarian linguistics Ivan Kutsarov was the first to work in this scientific paradigm. In the present study, which is part of a comprehensive study of categoriality and non-categoriality in the language, the emphasis is put on the manifestations of non-categoriality, but for this purpose, part of the categorial meanings is also presented. The main approach is comparative.

Нови същински и несъщински фразеологични изрази в българския медиен дискурс

Author(s): Teodora Ilieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2021

The prerequisites for spontaneous or premedited phraseological word formation are both cultural and geopolitical, ethnopsychological, socio-economic, contextual and others. Some neophraseologies acquire public usage and multiply, others freeze in the field of the occasional word formation. The main criteria for the excerpt of the phrases in the research are: the chronological one – real (full) and non-real (non-full) phraseologies are analyzed, isolated from media texts during the last 7 years; the semantic one – the semantic motivation is established, which is a result of borrowing, tracing, modification of an element of the phrase or rehabilitation of archaic word combinations; structural – mono-, bi- and polyelement forms; the thematic one – where sustainable units with different conceptual and stylistic affiliation are analyzed. The aim of the study is to differentiate the new real phraseology according to the derivational methods and ways of their emergence through metaphorization, metonymization, irony, hyperbole, substitution, etc. Each of the phrases is analyzed comprehensively according to the specified parameters.

Breaking the Norms of Bulgarian Language Online: Language Adaptation or Language Illiteracy

Author(s): Milen Filipov,Dinka Zlateva / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2021

The purpose of the research was to explore the experiences of Bulgarian university students, representatives of generations Y and Z, with breaking the rules of the Standard of Bulgarian language when communicating with textual posts on the Facebook social network site (SNS) and social networking applications (apps). Breaking language norms is due to the perception of the SNS and social apps communication as speaking rather than writing. Therefore, many of the language rules applicable to the writing are broken. The research employed a phenomenological inductive research strategy. It used a narrative literature review from 2011 to 2021 and an in-depth interview of 15 university students as research instruments. The theoretical framework was built on the theory of communication accommodation and audience design. Two main themes crystallized in the in-depth interviews: 1) communication in SNS and social apps – visual, verbal, and informal and 2) context and communicator determine the level of the Bulgarian language rules observance. In these themes, perceiving SNS communication as speaking, not as writing, hurrying up to join the communication, and the perception of the online environment as informal, explained the breaking the language rules. The research is the first to study the issue in the context of the experiences of the language users, and it opens the scientific field to further research.

Peace Linguistics: лингводидактический аспект

Author(s): Valeriy Efremov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 5/2021

Based on the concepts of such linguists and linguodidactists as D. Crystal, G. de Matos, A. Curtis, P. Friedrich and others, the work provides a brief historical excursion and analyzes the reasons for the emergence, subject and aims of the new direction in linguistics - peace linguistics as an independent area of humanitarian research (Peace Studies). The specificity of the use and the rich potential of the ideas of Peace Linguistics is demonstrated in the linguodidactic aspect. It is shown that the analysis of lexicographic sources can be carried out not only from the traditional point of view by representing linguocultural knowledge in them, but also from the point of view of the intrinsic concepts of chaos and order, conflict and harmony, war and peace.

Синтаксисът като езикова онтология

Author(s): Mariana Georgieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2021

n our opinion, * `logical basis` and *` syntactic basis` are incorrect from a cognitive point of view. The subjunctive is a syntactic category and the qualification `logical` is an oxymoron, or at least a dissonance. In logic, the category is the subject. And since the subjunctive is the syntactic category, even more disturbing is the tautological * `syntactic subjunctive`. The article substantiates the cognitive reading of the substratum. What is new is the derivation of linguistic ontology as a category of the cognitive method in syntax, of cognitive syntax.

Интернационализм «аванс» в русском и болгарском языках: сопоставительный анализ

Author(s): Olga Barabash,Antonia Pencheva / Language(s): Russian Issue: 6/2021

The article examines the functioning of the international word "аванс", formed from the French "avance" in the Russian and Bulgarian languages. By comparing the existing semantic capacity of the concept of "аванс" in the Russian, Bulgarian and French languages, the article reveals the nationally specific components of the meanings of these lexical units. The correlation of the secondary meanings recorded in the Slavic languages in question with the accompanying set of lexical and semantic variants of the original French word is established. The authors come to the conclusion that the translation of the international word “аванс” from Russian into Bulgarian in certain contexts requires the method of concretization, while the reverse translation requires the method of generalization.

It is based on a list of the most common words and phrases excerpted from specialized dictionaries and strives to systematize them using the lexico-semantic method. Bearing in mind their particular status in language it is found that colour words abound with figurative meanings and give rise to both metonymy and metaphor. The findings in this study can be applicable when teaching English maritime and naval terminology.

За някои методически принципи в специализираното чуждоезиково обучение за професията

Author(s): Silviya Vasileva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2021

The article discusses the necessity to apply specific methodological principles in FLT for professional purposes due to the increasing interest of learners towards such training. The focus is on the essence of the concept of specialized economic language and on the method of Task-Based Approach. The necessary strategies for its application are also mentioned. The development of the skill for active linguistic performance is promoted mainly by the implementation of minimally structured training situations (authenticity). The constructivist principle of creating polymodular conditions, including the personal experience of the learner so as to stimulate the solution of the given problem are mentioned. For this purpose the specialized content and its peculiarities together with its exact location in the vertical stratification of specialized language are emphasized. The process of working with specialized text and one of the descriptors of CEFR are discussed. When working, the principles of subject-specific aspects are taken into consideration, placing the importance on the quality of teaching materials instead of their quantity, and prioritizing the sistematicity and the orientation of the content over the form.

Author(s): Arsenije M. Sretković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 75/2021

This paper deals with verb forms in the poems The Marriage of Bey Ljubović and Zirka Kajovića from the stylistic and syntactic standpoint. The analysis procedure includes a syntactic indicative, a syntactic relative, qualifier, gnome form, narrative form, and absolute. In addition, referentiality and non-referentiality of verb forms are considered. Bearing in mind that verb forms are most often combined, the stylistic effects of combinations of verb forms are considered. This paper aims to determine the inventory of verb forms and describe their syntactic and stylistic features. The analysis showed that a rich inventory of verb forms could be found in Radovan Bećirović’s poems. Simple Past Tense, Truncated Perfect, imperfect, aorist, and temporally transposed Present Tense denote the past. In both poems, the future is expressed by the future one, and apart from it, in the poem The Marriage of Bey Ljubović, a futuroid is found. The present is realized in a syntactic indicative, and, additionally, it is found as a qualifying, gnomic, and narrative present, of which it is most often used as a narrative. Examples of presentations with modal meanings are not uncommon. In terms of referentiality, present forms in poems denote referential and non-referential actions. The infinitive is found as a complement to modal or phase verbs and is also used in the absolute. The past is realized in the syntactic indicative and the syntactic relative and denotes referential and non-referential actions. The aorist is a high-frequency verb form in the poem The Marriage of Bey Ljubović and is used in most cases as a narrative. The imperfect is realized in syntactic relative and suggests referential and non-referential actions. The Future Simple Tense is found in the syntactic relative, then the absolute, and with modal meanings, i.e., the meaning of intention, commandments, possibilities, etc. While the use of the Future Simple is linked to the heroes’ discourses, the futuroid appears in the narrative discourse. Except in the function of Future Simple, futuroid is found in gnome use. The pre- sent, the aorist, the imperfect, and the truncated perfect are forms whose stylistic features contribute to the topicality, experience, dynamism, and drama of the events being reported.

„Tako rzecze Zaratustra” Wacława Berenta: młodopolska maniera czy nowatorski eksperyment?

Author(s): Katarzyna Lukas / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2021

The paper deals with the Polish translation of Friedrich Nietzsche’s Also sprach Zarathustra made by the Polish writer Wacław Berent (1905). The translation is considered in the context of its epoch (“Young Poland”) and of Berent’s own literary work. The analysis aims at distinguishing the most important stylistic features of the translation: poetic devices typical of Young Poland, such as archaisms, neologisms, and reinforcement of the original’s audial qualities. Despite being criticized as “mannerist”, Berent’s translation appears as an innovative example of modernist translation, consistent with the symbolist model of translation.
