Türkçede Görünüş Belirteçliklerinin Öğretimi: Görünüş ve Derlem Çalışması

Author(s): Gülsüm Atasoy / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 1/2017

The purpose of the study is to describe the distinctive features of the Turkish aspectual adverbials artık, gayrı and bundan böyle ‘from now on’, which are defined as synonymous in Turkish Dictionary and give examples from Turkish teaching. We use the corpus of Turkish textbooks for primary and secondary schools (TTC) (Kurtoğlu, 2013) in the analysis. First, we analyse the usage values, lexical patterns and structures of the aspectual adverbials in Turkish in the written and spoken mediums of the TNC (Turkish National Corpus), then we compare and contrast the results with the results attained from TTC, considering their frequency distribution. It is observed that certain aspectual adverbials appear in certain phrases and structures. According to their temporal features, a certain structure chooses a certain viewpoint and situation type. Teaching aspectual adverbials to students can provide them with awareness in cognition; hence, improve their use of language.

Author(s): Kadir Yogurtçu / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 146/2009

The global world that is characterized by the rapid transformations in the fields of communication and information technologies, as a natural result of the process, points out to a world order that encompasses and uniforms everyone by labeling them all with its prevailing culture. This process which is imposed by the global world, charges every single country with the responsibility of protecting and improving its language as a representation and power of the cultural heritage. As we consider the significance the intercultural survival process has gained at the level of language and dialogue, we could better understand the significance of Turkish at the global level, as being a language spoken by nearly two hundred million people worldwide. Calling the international attention over itself, both by the EU membership process and its economical, political and cultural initiatives in Cyprus, Caucasia and Central Asia, Turkey has been developing new programs and has speeded up the scientific studies related with the issue of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. These studies have been executed parallel with the criteria of ‘attaching importance to the way language is used’ of 2000 European language council; moreover, comprehensive educational programs and new teaching materials have been worked out. The theoretical ground of these studies could be found in the sociolinguistic approach that refers to the concepts of ‘communicational capacity’, ‘language competence’, ‘speech-act’ and ‘communicational act’. With the aim of enriching the language teaching methods being proposed by the theories that are fed upon this approach, the use of an elaborated version of ‘ Micro Teaching Method’ for the rich systematic and rationalist strategies it contains, is believed to add new dimensions to the current studies in this field.

Uloga koncepta ‘otvorenosti’ u strukturiranju turskog i hrvatskog vokabulara: kontrastivna analiza

Author(s): Barbara Kerovec / Language(s): Croatian / Issue: 13/2016

The paper explores the role of the concept ‘openness’ in structuring of Turkish and Croatian vocabulary by analyzing different meanings of lexemes which primarily denote concrete, physical openness. The analysis aims to show how different meanings of these lexemes are interrelated and which experiential domains they are related to. Being guided by one of the fundamental thesis of Cognitive Linguistics according to which polysemy reflects the way we categorize our knowledge and conceptualize the world we live in, the paper points to similarities and differences between the two languages with respect to the importance that the concept ‘openness’ has in conceptualizing of other, less concrete and abstract experiences. It also addresses the ways these experiences are lexicalized by taking into account typological differences between the two languages.

Uz ~ Ğuz ~ Oğuz Kavim Adının Etimolojisi

Author(s): Fuzuli Bayat / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 3/2004

It is a well-known fact that non-linguistic factors as influent as linguistic ones in etymology of ethnonyms. Different denominations of one and same ethnic group, which do not seem related to each other at the first glance (for ins. Uz, Guz, Oğuz, Türk) stem indeed from the same source of faith. The Turkic ethnonym Oğuz seems to descend from the bökür/pökür ('ox') case, part of the lunar cult, which was wide-spread from Mesopotamia to Inner Siberia in the 4th-3th centuries B.C. The etymology offered here aims to prove this idea.

Author(s): Gökçe Y. Abdurrazak Peler / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 45/2015

Historically Turkic languages have served as lingua francas in Dagestan, which is a multilingual region. Kumyk, Azeri and Noghay had been influential in various parts of Dagestan at different proportions. Peculiarly the influence of Kumyk had been beyond the borders of Dagestan. In 1917, after the declaration of Northern Caucasia as an independent state, this practical situation as gained formality as the new republic declared Turkic as its official language. But after the abolishment of this republic by the Red Army, the Soviet administration had made great effort to dilute the influence of Turkic in the Caucasus. However local communist leaders in Dagestan had managed to keep Turkic as the language of education. Caucasic languages like Avar, Lezgi, Dargi etc has become both official and education languages as a result of language, education, nationalities and migration policies implemented after this date. As a result of these endeavors these languages has become languages of hundreds of thousands of people and the influence of Turkic in Dagestan has been diluted.

Yunus Emre Divanı’ndaki Ayet ve Hadis İktibaslarının Söz Dizimindeki Yeri

Author(s): Hüsna KOTAN / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 48/2017

Yunus, who has a great significance for our literary and linguistic history, whose discourse and the beauty of the discourse has not lost their importance until today and who considered mysticism a maxim for himself, made use of all the opportunities of language and brought his world of emotion and idea into being in his Divan. The real source from which Yunus had inspiration by using a real simple language free from artificiality and uttering his poetry with a nationalistic perception is Mysticism. His world is composed of four significant ideas; ‘Love of Allah, idea of unification, morals and tradition’. While expressing those ideas in his poetry, Yunus made use of various fields of Islamic culture such as hermeneutics, literature, geography, astronomy and especially The Holy Qur’an, verses and hadith, and he masterfully used those in his own language and terminology. As a great Turkish mystic, Yunus placed numerous verses and hadith in his Divan through quotations and references. It is even possible to state that every poem of his takes inspiration from verses and hadith. In this study, Yunus Emre’s quotations taken from verses and hadith will be explained, and their places in sentences will be analyzed in accordance with the principles of generative-reflexive syntax.
