Дарове и гостоприемство

Дарове и гостоприемство

Author(s): Tanya Boneva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2016

This article discusses the role of gifts and hospitality in Bulgarian peasant tradition in the context of peasant society structure: small and middle size family households organized to overcome difficulties and constraints of an underdeveloped society of „communal capitalism“ where most of the young people could not enter labor market outside villages. Overpopulation results in specific strategies of economic behavior: family members worked to make their households most productive through their efforts, mutual aid between village families in critical moments of agricultural cycle, as well as intensive social interaction in the most important social events in peasant communities: birth, wedding, rites of passage, funerals, calendar customs, rites and holidays, etc. All of them contained gifts exchanges and hospitality that reflect relative social equality and regular exchange of services between families. Most archaic gifts – oral blessings and actions, presented by ritual groups („koledari“, „survakari“, „kukeri“, etc) are directed to positive influence on actual and future fruits of nature and humans health. They are exchanged for material gifts and hospitality. Collective participation in gift exchange and hospitality includes rites aimed to overcome critical moment in the families and villages: long illness or epidemics. All the collective rituals expressed unity against social and natural crises.

Autonarracja jako strategia negocjowania tożsamości w tekstach polskich migrantów przebywających w Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii po roku 2004

Author(s): Joanna Ślósarska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2016

The article explores the shaping of narrators’ polyphonic identities in texts produced by Polish migrants temporarily residing in the UK and Ireland. Examining dozens of works produced between 2004 and 2015, Ślósarska tackles identity in relation to the fundamental determinants of self-narrative strategies. Her methodology is rooted in symbolic interactionism, standard patterns of biographies, and self-narration as a way of understanding and interpreting the world. Her conclusions focus on the function of self-narration in reconstructing individual and ethnic identities by migrants looking for new patterns of adaptation in unstable existential situations; the axiologization of the new experiences is discussed in relation to ethnic cultural memory and to the social and family identity roles developed earlier in life.

Między pamięcią a historią. Pisarze żydowscy pochodzenia maghrebskiego we Francji. Perspektywa socjologiczna

Author(s): Ewa Tartakowsky / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2016

Literary production by Jewish writers from North Africa in France reaches back to the 1950s and has been gaining momentum since the 1980s. These works function as vectors of memory, ‘historiography’ and adaptation. In a new environment, exile leads to recollection and memorialization processes, enabling the subject to fight against trauma and providing the migrant group with a framework of reference. Literature, which does not require a scientific framework, is able immediately to take over the narration of the past. These processes mediate between the exiled group and the host community, in which the exile literary work transcends the social realities that help construct the individual.

Проблеми на комуникацията училище – семейство и практически възможности за подобряване

Author(s): Galina Timova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 8/2017

Forms and methods of communication in Bulgarian schools have retained archaic nature for decades. The pre-school and school education law reinforces the status quo in this important part of the relations between teachers and parents. The concept of the school community has been introduced without the provision of adequate support. Applications for two-way communication and feedback like Class dojo, bloomz, Seesaw, Classroom etc. are not well known and their use is limited.

Разрешаване на конфликтни ситуации в училище от учители медиатори

Author(s): Tatyana Dronzina,Biserka Mihaleva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2017

Life is too short to waste time, energy and stress in dragging the unresolved conflict – especially if it makes you suffer every day. Frequent clashes with violence in schools seem hopeless. Obviously, we can not approach in the same way, i.e. applying only disciplinary punishments and expect a different result. We need to use actual working instruments. Mediation is a powerful tool for resolving conflict situations in school. In school mediation that is also known as school intervention meetings are held in order to achieve mutually satisfying dispute resolution, supported by a neutral third party (mediator) in the cozy space of open dialogue and partnership. School mediation is an effective method for the so called “win-win” resolution of disputes, enabling both sides involved in the conflict to win and continue their relations, having mutual interest. It is possible to transform disputes by school mediation before they have occurred. It is also possible to transfer disagreements into creative energy. The article presents various conflict situations, real for Bulgarian school, and a way that they can be resolved by the teachers-mediators.

Lodż hot gehuljet. Łódź hulała. Obraz kina i kultury atrakcji w żydowskiej gazecie codziennej 'Lodzer Tageblat' w latach 1908-1914

Author(s): Martyna Steckiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 03/2013

Lodz is a perfect example of the industrial, multiethnic city, which was developing very intensively during the XIX century. The changes concerned also the social structure and lifestyle of its inhabitants. Creating of the new ideas and cultural customs affected the morals and principles. Jews as a constituted group of city residents, were experiencing those changes as well. Systematically they took part in urban everyday life and became the attractive customer for the local entertainment industry. The article presents the analysis of the reception of early cinema in the Yiddish local newspaper „Lodzer Tageblat”, for the first time published in 1908. The presence of announcements and advertisements proves that Jews constituted an important part of Lodz’s audience in premises offering different entertainment programs. By putting reception of early cinema to the context of all other municipal entertainments offered by the local theatres, circus and cinematographs, I refer to to other research in early movie‐going in Łódź.

Author(s): Maria Markova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2017

This article strives to demonstrate some of the aspects of Bulgarians’ lives in the indicated district and time period. Their local living lifestyle has been partially examined through the connection between the mobility/immobility of the people, the three forms of exchange of goods between the communities (work, marriage and education) and the national identity. There is a symbiotic connection between the mobile and the immobile population. Periodically, part of the people who are led by material reasons, social hierarchy, exogamy, matrilocalism of the marriage etc., begin to self-identify as Greeks. The rest of the community is self-identified by their Bulgarianism. During the last quarter of 19th century, the ethnical origin still does not limit the diverse individual statuses and roles. By the time of the Balkan war declaring the national identity transforms into a means for (re)defining and updating the internal and the external borders between these groups of Bulgarians, including their relations with the rest of the population within the region.

Tools for sustainable development of world cultural heritage: The role of heritage impact assessment

Tools for sustainable development of world cultural heritage: The role of heritage impact assessment

Author(s): Milena Krachanova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2024

Cultural heritage is a factor in fostering social and economic development and ensuring a sustainable urban environment, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. Its sustainable management leads to preservation of the community’s identity and memory as well as the historic urban environment, which leads to reciprocal benefits for heritage and society. The article examines the possibilities for sustaining the Outstanding Universal Value of the World Heritage properties though the implementation of several key management tools as Management Plans and Management Systems, focusing mainly on Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA). It provides a comprehensive overview of the legislative provision and implementation of these tools at the national level. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining a review of the legal framework, secondary data analysis and qualitative data from case studies in Bulgaria. This methodology allows for a comprehensive analysis of the effectiveness and limitations of current heritage assessment tools in Bulgaria. The paper concludes that HIA is a vital component of sustainable cultural heritage management. By systematically assessing the potential impacts on heritage values, it provides a proactive approach to preservation of OUV of World Heritage sites. However, its effectiveness is contingent on its integration into State Parties’ policy frameworks and legal systems. Future research should focus on overcoming these challenges to ensure the continued relevance of the assessment and its alignment with broader sustainable development goals.

Author(s): Denisa Dumitrașcu / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

This article undertakes a comprehensive literature review to explore the complexities of managing and assessing collaborative group work in multicultural classrooms in the post-pandemic educational landscape. Anchored in Milton Bennett’s Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) and Jude Carroll’s insights on educational mobility, the review critically examines the theoretical underpinnings and practical challenges associated with diverse learning environments. Bennett’s DMIS is employed as a framework to understand and navigate cultural differences within the classroom, while Carroll’s research provides an in-depth look at the adaptation challenges of educationally mobile students. Through a synthesis of existing literature, this paper proposes practical strategies for educators, aiming to enhance group dynamics and improve assessment methods in a way that promotes inclusivity and fairness. The goal is to enrich the academic discourse by providing a nuanced analysis of multicultural group work management and assessment, drawing from a wide range of empirical studies and case analyses.
