Miało to wyrażać sens ludzkiego życia.

According to E. Levinas, even philosophy has its share of responsibility for the tragedies of the twentieth century, because the ontological conceptions of man necessarily lead to totalitarianism. To find the meaning of man's humanism we must look for it in ethics. Man is not only a being, nor a subject of enjoyment, nor that of knowledge, but above all the ethical subject. Man, I'm responsible for the other. My responsibility has no limits: I answer the needs of others, of their sufferings and even of their faults - Lévinas speaks of the substitution of me for the other. This responsibility does not come from my initiative: I have been assigned to responsibility in an absolute past that has never been present. The ethical relationship with the other, which is asymmetrical and anachronistic, is the foundation of the just society where all are equal.

Nam, tzn. Szczepanowi Śladze i mnie.

Zakres problemów biologicznych poszerzył się w ostatnich latach m.in. o sferę zdarzeń możliwych – głównie chodzi tu o możliwość istnienia życia w przestrzeni kosmicznej. Możliwość ta, to nade wszystko wskazanie uniwersalnych prawidłowości życia.

Zainteresowania naukowe ks. prof.

Levinas' thinking about death concerns two particular problems: the death of "me" and the death of the other. The "self" joins the consciousness of its mortality in the experience of suffrance and observing the death of others. Death seems like a threat, a violence that breaks the existence. Man is helpless in the face of death: he can not run away from her, not even know her. Levinas refuses Heidegger's conception of seeing death as the bottom of the ultimate meaning of life: man is not a being-for-death. But man is not even immortal, for two reasons: the hope of eternal life would destroy the gratuitousness of goodness which constitutes the humanity of man; the notion of subjectivity contains a reference at the beginning and at the end, the eternal subject would therefore be contradictory. The refusal of immortality does not take away the absurdity of life. Meaning is saved in the dimension of interpersonal relationships. Kindness, love of neighbor, are not subject to death. In particular, fertility guarantees the continuation of the goodness of the father in the son and the increase of the goodness of humanity towards the convergence of reality and morality in the society of messianic peace. For Levinas the real problem of death is the death of the neighbor. It is the mortality of the other and not of his own that we should be interested in the first place. The responsibility for the other concerns especially his death: one can not leave him alone in the face of death. The death of the other arouses in the survivor the scruple of occupying a place that is not his own. The love of the neighbor is especially the responsibility for his death. But we must recognize - against Levinas - that missing the prospect of immortality, it is a tragic love.

In traditional interpretations, ancient Sophistic is labeled as relativism. According to them, Plato and Aristotle refer Protagoras' doctrine to philosophically inconsistent perceptual relativism. Plato offers two interpretations of relativism, and one of them, so called "secret doctrine" of Protagoras, is often marked as Plato’s own theory of perceptions. Despite the fact that the exoteric and esoteric versions of Protagorean doctrine contains fully valid epistemic and ontological ideas, they are attributed philosophical failure to them because of the self-refutation thesis contained in them, and, according to Aristotle's version, its subjectivism. Subjectivism can also be attributed to Gorgias with regard to his categorial distinction of abilities and objects of perception. However, criticizing subjectivism, Aristotle himself uses a similar categorial argument. Both interpretations undermined the reliance of the Sophistic, having made relativism one of the negative markers of it. Modern rehabilitating interpretations of the Sophistic either seek ways to eliminate subjectivism and skepticism from the sophistic doctrines, or avoid using modern terminology, also they should take into account that fact that in the contemporary philosophy there is no such concept as «simply relativism », but there are various, sometimes contradictory, interpretations of it, and in this case, they have to make an adjustment to the current context in which negative interpretations of relativism have long been not popular.

The emergence and expansion of a gamification concept calls out questions of its meaning and the ontology of phenomena it contains. The article’s point of departure lies in reflection that gamification is simultaneously a kind of entity and a tool of cognition. In this article the author, following Johann Huizinga’s classical approach, a ributes the category of play/game to culture and examines it in terms of cognition. He consequently describes cognitive concepts of realism and nominalism, Kantian turn towards the „critical philosophy”, and Hilary Putnam’s „internal realism”. They are basic criteria that delineate the ontological status of culture and its attributes. According to Roger Caillois, the play/game or ludus differs from non-ludus because of the six „fundamental rules”: a) it is free, not obligatory, b) it is separate from the routine of life and occurs in its own time and space, c) it is uncertain, so that the results of play cannot be pre-determined, d) it is unproductive in that it creates no wealth and ends as it begins, e) it is governed by rules that suspend ordinary laws and behaviour and that must be followed by players, f) it involves make-believe that confirms for players the existence of imagined realities that may be set against „real life”. Disruptions of the „fundamental rules” lead to manipulation and deception, they ruin the play/game, instigate conflicts, destroy trust, and eventually they corrupt social bonds and open gates for social anomy. Gamification is a strategy that uses tools of reification and mystifica on, blends the orders of a conventional world of play/game with reality and destroys their principal rules. The way to prevent the process of destruction may be looked for in the domain of moral or ethical criteria, which can be found beyond the domain of the ludus.

In this paper I try to discover a common thread which links issues discussed by various authors that may at first glance have little commerce with one another. The authors deal with different relations to reality that, I argue, inform our everydayness and technologies that permeat it. I consider the ontological issue of the real to be the unifying notion. Also, a tendency to disavow the human-centered stance on both theoretical and practical terms alongside abolishing the distance between man, or culture, and nature is apparent. The notion that technology does not have to be exploitative or destructive seems to also be an outcome of the mentioned shift in ontological terms. Our everyday dealings can be informed by notions that avoid dualisms such as different forms of anthropocentrism versus realism.

In this article the twofoldness of Heidegger’s treatment of modern technology is presented. Firstly, it is shown that one can trace the line of thinking on modern technology from the earliest to the latest of Heidegger’s thinking periods. Though Heidegger claimed that it was firstly the task to understand the essence of modern technology that concerned him, it is still possible to discern basic trends of treatment or evaluation of modern technology in his thinking. On the one hand, the Heideggerian critique of modern technoscientific revelation of reality is presented: Heidegger stressed not only the negative practical consequences of technology as ecological crisis but also ontological ones as the disappearance of the experience of Being itself. The program of the overcoming of technology is presented as well as some examples of the alternatives. On the other hand, the positive or appropriative treatment of modern technology is presented. The fragmentary suggestions that it is precisely the modern technological revealing of reality that prepares the way for the authentic experience of Being are developed by connecting them with early Heidegger’s claim that it is the basic experience of production that forms the conceptual horizon of Western culture. The possibility that this line of Heideggerian thinking might help to understand and articulate such important phenomena of current technoscientific condition as synthetic biology is mentioned.
