The aim of this paper is to determine the characteristics of universal culture of animation in general, seen as a kind of humanistic pedagogy in the broad sense. The starting point for the author are the constitutive features of cultural animation relating to: (1) understanding animation as revival, activation, change etc.; (2) treating the culture of individuals and communities as a key subject of its impact; (3) implementation of any animation activities based on the humanistic methodical principles; (4) adoption of axiological minimum as a necessary condition for the perception of cultural animation as pedagogical idea, and (5) clarifying the specificity of the role of social culture animator. The text attempts to generalize them with a view to developing a pedagogical theory of animation activity beyond its cultural – exclusively – aspects.

The divergence trend in cognition and education is so strong that instead of an image in high definition we cease to see the reality as a meaningful whole. Therefore, it is the time of blurred genres and interdisciplinary research. However, pedagogy hardly copes with the postulate of interdisciplinarity. The breakdown into research plots and specializations blocks the question about multidimensional education. The problem is even more serious. Interdisciplinarity also has adverse consequences, which brings on the need to change the academic culture. Transdisciplinarity makes a higher level of interdisciplinarity as a change in the epistemological status of the individual humanities. In that context, philosophical pedagogy is not just a part of pedagogy, but it is an internal transdisciplinary movement in pedagogy.

The research indicated the possibility of using the basic ideas of Husserl's phenomenology to create a theoretical scaffolding for the discussed category. This paper aims to examine Martin Buber's concept of educating. Buber's specific field of interest was the teacher-pupil relation. It is not purely dialogical since the notion of 'embracing' inheres only in the teacher. Only he/she can recognize the specifics, dynamics and the aim of the educating process. Nevertheless, the relation with the pupil manifests a number of features typical for dialogics, such as: candor, directness, mutual engagement, subjective attitude towards partners, and - above all - 'presence' understood as mutual 'being-towards'. An important issue raised by Buber in his concept of pedagogy is the problem of creativity. The creative potential, possessed by every pupil, is particularly valuable from the perspective of pedagogy. The teacher takes actions to reveal and shape it. However, developing creativity should not be treated as the goal, but as the means. The creator, despite the fact that he/she creates for others, remains solitary. The process of creating does not open him/her to the others, since they do not experience him/her, but only the result of the process. Therefore, it is an illusion to expect creativity to lead to community.

The everyday reality of education as the crossroads intertwining the lifeworlds of the educator and pupil, being ambiguous and diverse, variable, because creating itself, rational and irrational, et cetera, does not allow for trimming in a universal dimension the principles and the expected effects of ethical action. It is a playing field between inevitability and the possibility of ethical pedagogical action. Thus, the article called into question the legitimacy of creating a code of ethics as a document validating the status of the profession of an educator. This is accompanied by the belief that it is extremely difficult to balance deontology with respecting the right of the educator to the personal autonomy, as well as the appreciation of his/her and the pupil's experiencing of the everyday reality of education.

The topicality of Janusz Korczak’s thought lies in its openness towards ignorance. It is not due to our knowledge about a child, but to philosophical ignorance that we can open up to a dialog with it. Referring to philosophical ignorance is the core element of Korczak’s reflection on the nature of a child. An educator responsible for children must observe them every day. In this way he/she learns to shape his/her respect towards their current needs. When an educator gives a child the right to be who it is, he/she simultaneously limits his/her right to decide who this child is to be in the future. Therefore, the educator is obliged to take responsibility not for a child’s future, but for its present.

The paper is an attempt to present the idea of an ethnography of life understood as a formative narrative on the shaping of one’s identity diachronically as well as from the perspective of key metaphors penetrating the trajectory of the whole life. Ethnography of life is a kind of intellectual and emotional vivisection, a reflexive autotherapy which highlights the different contexts and crucial moments that shape what we often call a scientific biography. The key metaphor of this story is “the doubling of shadow” – the passing of the loved ones, and life in the shadow of the postwar reality of the People’s Republic of Poland.

The article – focused on the exploration of the meanings of transgenerational scientific biographies – is a form of a dialogic conversation occurring between two members of the society of Łódź pedagogues. He – emerged in this society as a newcomer arriving from the world of anthropology and ethnography. She – a social pedagogue –made her way there from the circle of the family social work field. In spite of having different disciplinary origins, carrying on a dialog gives them a chance to recognize the paths indicating the existence of their common intellectual and experiencerelated connections. Using these common links, they work together on the interpretation and gradual detection of the signs of unacknowledged past, where ethnography and social pedagogy meet the foundations set by Helena Radlińska and Kazimiera Zawistowicz-Adamska.

This paper concerns the monitoring of educational processes with the use of new technologies for the recognition of human emotions. This paper summarizes results from three experiments, aimed at the validation of applying emotion recognition to e-learning. An analysis of the experiments' executions provides an evaluation of the emotion elicitation methods used to monitor learners. The comparison of affect recognition algorithms was based on the criteria of availability, accuracy, robustness to disturbance, and interference with the e-learning process. The lessons learned in these experiments might be of interest to teachers and e-learning tutors, as well as to those researchers who want to use affective computing methods in monitoring educational processes.

An internship at the United Nations is an opportunity that young people inter ested in international law, international relations, and many other fields, perceive as he best possible career starting point – and rightfully so. The United Nations intern ship is an experience second to none in the world of international organizations and this is why it must be available to the widest range of people, regardless of their status, place of birth and social context. However, the current United Nations intern ship policy is very controversial and in desperate need of a change. While voices for change of policy are raised more and more, this topic has been very rarely addressed in academic literature across the world and papers and books dealing exclusively with this issue are almost non-existent. In this article, the author will address the main points of the concern regarding unpaid internship and will offer potential solutions for its improvement. This article is a humble contribution that will hopefullyinstigate wider academic acknowledgment of this problem and eventually contribute to the resolution of this unfortunate practice.

German pedagogy is the reference point for the analysis of the relationship between educational sciences and pedagogy, due to the fact that in Germany educational sciences constitute a distinct field of study. In my work, I refer to the origins of educational sciences in German-speaking countries and present their development and status in Poland. I offer three cognitive perspectives in the Polish approach to educational sciences. First, pedagogy as a science of education, whose purpose is human education. Second, the science of education which is like pedagogical metatheory of education or educational metascience. Third, the science of educational sciences, i.e. the science that integrates the results from different areas and fields of science which make education the subject of their research.

The essay analyses recent developments in the science of education in Germany. It understands the situation observed today as a crisis. A long tradition of pedagogical reflection, based on experience as well as on strong philosophical thinking, dating back to the period of enlightenment and the classic idea of “Bildung” coined in 1800, is going to be abandoned and lost. This is also happening to the tradition of Geisteswissenschaftliche Pädagogik”, which has been the leading paradigm of educational sciences in the 20th century. Instead, the empirical approach will become dominant, obviously influenced by methods of psychological research and those of social sciences. The new empirical approach has tremendous effects on the practice in education and teaching: ethical orientations and reflections, understanding and cooperation are given away, while more or less technological forms of pedagogical treatment will flourish.

In this text it is assumed that due to economic and social changes, both education and training, recognized as professional activity, as well as other fields of influencing the Other (management, counseling, care, social work, communication) are currently under internal recomposition and transformation of their social role. Therefore, they tend to organize themselves not only as fields of practice, that can be enriched by disciplinary approaches defining the object of study, but also within the research field. This transformation is accompanied by a number of epistemological, theoretical and methodological orientations, which require clarification. This paper aims to review these orientations and focus particularly on the relationship between education and professional activity on the one hand, and on the theoretical issues of action/activity on the other. The text is arranged around the initial hypothesis that the development of research areas corresponds to the fields of practice. Their analysis requires the use of a conceptual apparatus that could accurately combine the construction of activity with the shaping of individual and collective actors.

The aim of the paper is to describe the paradigm of duality being „a new type of complexity, present in specific texts that are important both for theory and social practice” (Witkowski 2013:44) and having mainly social roots (Merton, Elias). Lech Witkowski argues that pedagogy, thanks to the said paradigm, „has become capable of being a mature discipline which will be able to handle discourse and research” (Witkowski 2013: 64) and illustrates its usefulness for pedagogy by analyzing the major achievements of the Polish inter-war pedagogues. The paradigm of duality is not identical with the postmodern moral relativism and does not depreciate the world of values. It may even constitute the core of ethics where „there is a space for oscillation between conflicting and yet obligating values” (Maliszewski, 2013:41). This approach may be particularly useful in pedeutology and academic teaching, since it can provide students with an ability to perceive and accept the ambivalence of their future professional roles as being a feature of educational circumstances and a component of their intellectual culture.

This paper is meant as a contribution to the discussion on the concept and research of the phenomenon of pedagogization. The reflections refer mainly to the analyses of pedagogization of social life conducted within the (post)Foucauldian approach. The author highlights the significance of the thematic issue of “Societas/Communitas” journal for introducing this research perspective into the field of Polish social studies. The final section offers a definition of pedagogization of social life which would take into account a more extensive application of the related concepts of pedagogism and pedagogy.
