ASSERTIVE MANAGERIAL COMMUNICATION: A PURPOSEFUL FACTOR FOR CAREER SUCCESS DURING COVID-19 TIMES

Author(s): Adela Jansen,Corina Daniela Bogheanu,Iudith Anci KIS,Maria-Mădălina Tabarcia,Madlena Nen / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The pandemic complexified the way we communicate, work and interact, revealed shadows of professional and personal life's frontiers, unexpectedly accelerated the known trends in digitization. Equally the leaders and the employees had to face and react fast, the assertive communication empowered by emotional intelligence being a key to success. This research paper reflects a comparative analysis of the way in which the managerial communication is approached in the pandemic period by different types of organization, profit or non-profit ones, aiming to highlight the importance of language acts for career success and organization progress, the way it becomes critical in shock moments and how the company policies are adapted for a business continuity plan and more. The study highlights that, no matter the type of organization, profit or non-profit, big or small, all used types of communication represent the most valuable element that keeps the pieces together both in business and in manager’s professional life in order to maintain the business and to have career success, in the short and long term. Communication skills is something that we all hold or we can improve and does not always imply financial resources but if it is well done, with emotion, ethics and in due time, brings an incommensurable return on investment. The practical implications of this research are for the HR strategies and policies, with a focus on developing the communication skills by valuing the emotional intelligence competencies that can positively be perceived as relevant for personal development and career success or for the resilience of the organization.

TECHNOLOGICAL IMMERSION – CONCEPT IN 21st CENTURY ARCHITECTURE

TECHNOLOGICAL IMMERSION – CONCEPT IN 21st CENTURY ARCHITECTURE

Author(s): Claudiu-Alexandru TUDORAN / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 26/2021

Technology has always evolved faster than architecture. Still, architects tried to keep up with the changes and the tendencies of the society. Therefore, although changes in architecture are slower, they still persist, so the discipline is constantly updated – both theoretically and practically. Architects also have to find a creative potential for the new technologies. In this way architecture will be able to enter a new field of activity in the digital age: to produce completely authentic environments and experiences.

Green Image and Incentives: Unraveling Their Moderating Impact on Green Innovations, Investor Perception and Financial Performance

Green Image and Incentives: Unraveling Their Moderating Impact on Green Innovations, Investor Perception and Financial Performance

Author(s): Mayank Jain / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2023

This study examines the linkages between technological green innovations, financial performance and investor enthusiasm in listed Indian manufacturing firms, a context under-represented in extant literature. It aims to address the gap in understanding how investor enthusiasm drives the adoption of green innovation practices and their subsequent impact on financial performance. Moreover, the study investigates the moderating effects of green image and green production incentives, providing comprehensive insights into adopting environmentally sustainable practices. Using a quantitative analysis approach, the research uncovers that green process innovation positively influences green product innovation, contributing to financial performance and investor enthusiasm. However, it also reveals that macroeconomic factors and consumer purchasing power challenge green process innovation. Unexpectedly, no empirical evidence supports the moderation effect of green image between green production incentives and investor enthusiasm. Overall, the study contributes to a better understanding of the complex interplay between green innovation, financial performance and investor enthusiasm in the Indian manufacturing context. The findings hold significant implications for practitioners, policymakers and investors towards fostering a more sustainable future for the Indian manufacturing sector. Future research directions include further exploring dynamic relationships, incorporating other types of green innovations, and considering additional metrics for financial performance and investor enthusiasm.

Writing competence in translating ESP texts through blogging within the framework of flipped classroom

Writing competence in translating ESP texts through blogging within the framework of flipped classroom

Author(s): Nicolas Montalban,Salvador Montaner-Villalba / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

In this paper, we aim to verify whether Flipped Classroom and blogging promote writing competence in specialized English. In order to do this, we implemented an experiment with learners from the Specialized Translation (English) course, in the 4th academic year of the BA in Translation and Interpretation during the year 2019-2020. This didactic experience consisted of the creation of a blog by learners with their tasks, which consisted of some translations from English into Spanish and text composition in English. To assess this experience, two questionnaires were made: a diagnostic survey to ascertain learners’ knowledge related to the acquisition of written competence in English through blogging within the framework of Flipped Classroom, and a final survey to analyze the progress. Moreover, quality research was done on the English-Spanish translation, which was used within the process of teaching writing competence in English through evaluation metrics, such as Precision, Recall, WER and BLEU. Finally, texts produced through Coh-Metrix tool and learners’ co-evaluation were studied to analyze the quality of the texts in English.

Viitorul începe curând – planul de măsuri „TVA în era digitală”

Author(s): Sorin Biban / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2023

On the 8th of December 2022, the European Commission has published a plan of measures regarding the changes of the VAT legislation which is meant to simplify, modernize and harmonize a good part of the current rules. The package of measures that was proposed by the Commission is focused on three main objectives: (i) electronic invoicing and digital reporting, (ii) the single VAT registration in EU (the so-called OSS – One Stop Shop) and (iii) rules regarding the platforms/electronic interfaces (electronic commerce). The entry into force of the changes will be gradual, with a part of the changes scheduled to enter into force on the 1st of January 2024, another part on the 1st of January 2025 and the last part on the 1st of January 2028. It is important to mention that at the moment, the plan of measures is discussed within the Council of the European Union, with the unanimity being the requirement for adoption. From the information that has initially appeared in public, it has emerged that, although there would be unanimity regarding most of the proposed measures, the possibility that the deadline for the entry into force might be postponed by one year is not excluded. However, a draft report of the European Parliament was recently published, which contains about 100 proposed amendments to the project debated by the Commission, including postponing the deadlines for entry into force by 2 years (not one, as was discussed initially) generally motivated by the time required for Member States to be able to implement the new rules. The following does not constitute an in depth analysis of the proposed changes, but rather an inventory of the main amendments included in the package.

Implementing a 3D model for simulations in mechanics

Implementing a 3D model for simulations in mechanics

Author(s): Lasko Laskov / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

A large category of problems that arise in physics require an efficient and robust implementation of a three-dimensional model that is specific and cannot be found in the existing software systems. Such models rely on 3D geometric objects representation to perform various simulations of different physical phenomena. Divers applications are based on 3D geometric objects, among which material deformation under certain conditions, heat propagation in a given environment, and as in our case, wave propagation simulation. Of course, the variety of examples that can be given is vast. In this paper we present an implementation of a 3D model as part of our solution of a 3D elastodynamic problem for wave propagation in continuously inhomogenous half-space. The model is optimized to serve as basis of boundary integral equation method (BIEM), but the approach can be applied in various applications that require 3D geometric objects representation.

Predicting Student’s Performance in Educational Institutes Using Tree Family Classifiers

Author(s): Ammar Almasri,Jameel Alsarayrah,Diaa Salman / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

Academic systems are working in a complex environment and faced problems to analyze the performance of students using their current systems. Therefore, they use data mining tools to analyze an enormous set of data, get hidden and useful knowledge, and extract meaningful information. The aim of this study is to develop new learning techniques to predict students’ academic results. Five classifiers of the tree family used for the experiments are J48, BF Tree, NB Tree, Random Forest, Random Tree and REP Tree. The results indicated that Random Forest outperformed all the other tree family classifiers in all three datasets. Hence, it is a superior classification technique among the classifiers used for the educational datasets.

Hardware Design Automation with Python and Verilog HDL

Hardware Design Automation with Python and Verilog HDL

Author(s): Yassen Gorbounov / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

This article discusses an approach to facilitate the design of digital devices of increasing complexity by using the Python language. In this way, both synthesizable designs and non-synthesizable testbench modules can be created. Some practical examples used in the training of students are considered, including the design of a series of frames for control of matrix indicator, a binary multiplier, implemented both as a memory and by using a recursive algorithm. The capabilities of programming languages are increasingly used to create verification environments, as they provide convenience in describing the behavior in the submission of test vectors and making comparisons with the expected response despite the requirement for parallelism in the design. Also, in the verification process, the need for low-level hardware knowledge is not as great as when creating synthesizable designs. In this sense, the software approach, including the concept of object-oriented programming, turns out to be very appropriate. This makes working with complex designs more accessible, particularly for university students, saving them time and allowing them to concentrate on tasks with a higher level of difficulty.

Conway’s Circle Theorem: A Short Proof, Enabling Generalization to Polygons

Author(s): Eric Braude / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

John Conway’s Circle Theorem is a gem of plane geometry: the six points formed by continuing the sides of a triangle beyond every vertex by the length of its opposite side, are concyclic. The theorem has attracted several proofs, even adorned Mathcamp T-shirts. We present a short proof that views the extended sides as equal tangents of the incircle, a perspective that enables generalization to polygons.

ROLUL DE PRODUCT OWNER ÎN CADRUL ECHIPELOR CONTEMPORANE DE DEZVOLTARE A PRODUSELOR IT CARE LUCREAZĂ CU PRINCIPII „AGILE”

Author(s): Alina-Cristina GHIBA / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 28/2022

In the present paper, we try to evaluate the role of the Product Owner within a team who develops an IT product after testing specific hypotheses related to its availability to other team members when new requirements from the client arise or when relevant expertise is needed, its capacity at the time of setting priorities in the cycle of development, by the interaction it has with team members and related to the way in which confirm completion of work or certain tasks. The assumed objectives were achieved through the application of a questionnaire. 80 people were questioned, people who occupy various positions in the IT field, people working following "Agile" principles such as Proxy Product Owner, Scrum Master, Technical Business Analyst, Tech Lead, Developer, WebOps, Front End, QE Lead, Manual Tester and Automation Tester. Empirical analysis confirms that the Product Owner sets all development priorities of an IT product and approves that the product has been completed according to the requirements of the client. These results are important and confirm that, beyond the limits given by limited availability of the Product Owner and imperfect interaction with team members, reference to "Agile" principles helps it deliver quality to customers.

Czy(m) mierzyć sztukę?

Author(s): Grzegorz Pochwatko / Language(s): Polish Issue: 33/2022

Mogą posłużyć twórcom do świadomego kierowania doznaniami i reakcjami uczestników doświadczeń VR.

Hipermediatyzacja rzeczywistości - wzrastanie dziecka i nabywanie kompetencji medialnych w obliczu wyzwań współczesności

Author(s): Katarzyna Lichtańska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2022

The new media pose significant challenges for parents, teachers and educators. One of them is the unlimited space for the use of digital technologies. Its speed, interactivity and reach make it, next to family and peer group, the child’s environment of growth and development. The real and virtual worlds penetrate each other and the boundaries between them seem to be blurring. We become the participants of hyper reality – the world mediated by digital tools. The author presents the positive and negative aspects of hypermediatyzation, paying special attention to the youngest recipients, for whom the media become the source of their first developmental experiences.

Communication Community in the Prefigurative World

Communication Community in the Prefigurative World

Author(s): Aleksander Kobylarek,Martyna Madej,Marie Roubalova / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

In the contemporary world, communication goes far beyond the well-known traditional written or spoken forms. For today’s digital users, these have become insufficient, as using them, they cannot express their thoughts fully. The youth that has developed its own language, has become more hermetic, but not because it rejects other generations. The reason is the inability of older generations to understand the new ways of communication. Seniors find it challenging to learn how to use new technologies and stay up to date with trends. Although young people are able to understand them, the older generation cannot keep up with the news and stays excluded. The lack of mutual understanding results in weaker bonds. Once again, it is possible to observe ICT as a contemporary key competence essential for an adequate, mutually comprehensible exchange of messages. The best way to connect two generations in this aspect is informal education, especially one focusing on intergenerational activities, which will not only reduce the exclusion of a social group such as seniors but will also let them to develop their critical thinking skills, which in the age of the Internet are crucial.

The Potential of ICT Tools for Achieving Better Achievement in Learning English for Specific Purposes in the Context of Hybrid Learning

Author(s): Doloris BEŠIĆ-VUKAŠINOVIĆ,Snežana Bešić / Language(s): English Issue: 1(3)/2023

Educational technology as an interdisciplinary field whose subject of study is the effective use of modern technology in education is very significant when we talk about changes within the educational system. Bearing in mind that educational technology includes both means and procedures used in the teaching and learning process, the goal of its application is to increase the efficiency of the teaching process itself, as well as student achievement in learning. The paper is based on the assumption that the application of ICT tools in the teaching ESP has the potential to contribute to the success of students in mastering the desired material. The research subject of this paper is the examination of the impact of the application of information and communication technologies in teaching on the learning ESP vocabulary at the academic level in the context of hybrid learning. With the aim of examining the mentioned impact, a survey was conducted on a convenient sample of 50 first-year students of the Faculty of Business Studies and Law and the Faculty of Information Technology and Engineering, UNION University "Nikola Tesla" in Belgrade. The obtained results are contrary to our expectations that teaching organized with the help of ICT will lead to a significant progress of the experimental group compared to the control group on the knowledge retest and indicate that although teaching generally leads to progress in the achievement of students of both groups, the use of ICT in teaching, in the way it was performed in this research makes no difference in terms of that progress.
