Author(s): Teresa Brzezińska-Wójcik / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2018

The study presents the results of evaluation of the “Roztocze - Witalnosc z natury” brand as an indicator of the abiotic assets of the region reflected in marketing slogans and tourism products. The study goals were achieved using the query and stocktaking methods, screening, and analysis of opportunities for development. The results indicate that the most frequently mentioned abiotic elements include landscape (hills, valleys, and Cretaceous, Eocene, and Miocene rock outcrops) and recreational (groundwaters) assets. There is no indication of specialist assets. The abiotic assets are most widely identified in Roztocze Tomaszowskie. The marketing slogans mainly refer to recreational (streams, Roztocze wave, kayaks, sunny beaches) and landscape (quarries, rock and fossil outcrops) assets. The tourism offer proposes primarily trail-products; in turn, there are no area-products or object-products evoking memories of the brand and Roztocze as a tourist region.

(DIS)ADVANTAGES OF TOURISM IN THE CONDITIONS OF SELF-GOVERNMENT AND WAYS OF ITS EFFECTIVE PROMOTION

Author(s): Kristína Hoghová / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2019

The creation of Slovak Republic as an independent state, globalization, and internationalization of society has brought an increase in competition between cities, not only at the national level, but beyond national borders also. This is also related to the city image and its communication after the year 1989, when the self-governments acquired a significant position thanks to the implementation of the law on municipal establishment. If cities want to keep their position in the urban market and be successful at the same time, it is necessary to remember the importance of marketing activities, as well as maintain a positive city image. Thus, paper focuses on the characteristics of internal marketing communication of the selected city. Based on the results of the survey conducted, we will proceed to our own proposals and recommendations for the city’s marketing communication in order to maintain its image and competitiveness.

(NON-)CONVEX PRODUCTION METAFRONTIER FOR THE BALTIC STATES

(NON-)CONVEX PRODUCTION METAFRONTIER FOR THE BALTIC STATES

Author(s): Linas Rudminas,Tomas Baležentis / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2020

The productive technology can be defined for different levels of aggregation (e.g., enterprises, economic sectors, economies). The groups of relatively homogenous observations can be established in order to model their performance with respect to the corresponding frontiers. The grand technology comprising all the frontiers is termed as the metafrontier. In this paper, we look into the dynamics of productivity of the three Baltic States, namely, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania over the period of 2000-2016. We establish country-specific frontiers and a metafrontier in order to identify technological superiority of the countries against each other. What is more, we apply both convex and non-convex metafrontier in order to ascertain whether the underlying axioms impact the technological gaps. The results confirm the technological superiority of Estonia with regards to the other two Baltic states. Capital productivity requires improvement in Lithuania, whereas both capital and labour productivity gains are necessary in Latvia in order to approach the metafrontier.

(С)поделена природа? Природно наследство и местно развитие в един регион от българо-сръбското пограничие

Author(s): Ivaylo Markov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The article is focused on a border region between Bulgaria and Serbia which is geographically dominated by Ruy Mountain (whose ridge is the boundary between Bulgaria and Serbia) and the valley of Erma river forming two huge defiles along its way in this mountainous region – the Lomnishko defile (in Bulgaria) and the Poganovsko defile (in Serbia). The micro region (from natural and geographical point of view) shared until 1919 several cultural, social and economic characteristics (from an anthropological point of view), thus forming a common historical and geographical entity. The demarcation of the boundary between Bulgaria and Serbia as a result of the Treaty of Neuilly split the region between the two countries. The border regime, which was rigid and impermeable through the whole second half of the 20th century, made the zones on the both sides of the border well guarded, but industrially underdeveloped periphery. With the opening of the border in the period after 1989 and especially with the intensification of the European integration processes the character of the Bulgarian-Serbian border is undergoing changes and is gradually turning into a bridge for diverse trans-border initiatives. A great deal of these initiatives are connected with the well preserved ecology of the region, which is evaluated at present as a treasure by the local authorities and communities who believe it to be an important resource and instrument for the overcoming of the peripheral position of the region.

Author(s): Mert Umur Öngider,Senem Yazıcı / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2020

The traditional tourism marketing aims to influence the tourist's travel motivation by using visual and sensory factors. Brochures with one-dimensional photographs were used to influence the buying behaviour of tourists. Technological changes have enabled the creation of two- and three dimensional photographs and videos. Virtual Reality which is one of the technological changes provides a real-time three-dimensional interaction experience in a computer-generated environment. This research aims to determine whether three-dimensional virtual reality videos affect travel motivation. In the research, a pretest-posttest control group model was applied. The travel motivation scale was solved twice at a different time without any intervention to the control group. The experimental group was manipulated by watching a three-dimensional and360-degree video with virtual reality glasses before answering for the second time. Collected data were analyzed by using dependent and independent t-test. The results of the research showed that the differences in the pretest and post-test averages of the experimental group with virtual reality experience were statistically significant. It was concluded that virtual reality videos positively affect the motivation of tourists to travel.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Academic Articles about Innovation in the Perspective of Tourism Sector

Author(s): Ahmet Gümüş / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2020

Purpose – This study aims to make bibliometric analyses of the articles in academic journals searched between 2010 and 2019 in scientific databases about innovation from the perspective of the tourism sector. Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative search and bibliometric analysis method have been preferred in this study. To this end, 117 articles about innovation in the tourism sector were examined through a bibliometric analysis method within a framework of 10 parameters in various scientific databases between the specified years. The bibliometric data regarding the last 10 years were transferred into a spreadsheet, then their frequency and percentage analyses were made by the SPSS 23 statistical packet software. Findings – Accordingly, it was seen that most of the articles were published in the journal "International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management" in 2016 and that the study field of "innovation" was the most-frequently handled topic in tourism businesses. Examining the parameters of the number of authors, method, and data collection tool, it was found that most of the articles were written by two authors and the quantitative research method and surveys were mostly preferred by the authors. Discussion – In terms of number of authors, method and data collection tool, it was understood that the articles partially overlapped with the literature. It is thought that this study will contribute not only to the literature and the researchers interested in the field but also to the productivity and competitiveness in the sector.
