George Coşbuc (1866–1918) is the poet who conquers us every time with his simple lyrics – an oasis of peace and calm. Being a complex personality, George Coşbuc remains in the con sciousness of the Romanian people not only through his poetry, but also through the translations he made – for example between 1886–1887 he translated more than 480 poems from 92 Greek authors – or through its collaborations on editing schoolbooks, as the schoolbook entitled “Carte românească de citire” (Romanian reading book), during 1890–1891.His professional activity was a complex one, from which we can offer as examples: he worked as a public official, as an associate professor, as a member of the edito rial board of the “Albina” Journal, as chief of the extracurricular activity control bureau. The accomplishments in his professional activity were not late in being recognized: in 1898 he was elected as corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, and in 1916 we was appointed as an active member of this prestigious institution. This year, in September, we will celebrate 150 years from the birth of George Cosbuc, the poet close to the soul of his nation. We have a duty of not forgeting him and also of paying homage to George Cosbuc, the poet who defined himself as “a soul in the soul of the nation” and “a heart in the heart of my nation”.
