The author reviews the moments when he studied Adrian Fochi’s book, Miorița, (Typology, circulation, genesis, texts, with a foreword by Pavel Apostol, Publishing House of the R. P. R. Academy, Bucharest, 1964), for the making of a documentary film in 1973, also when he published an article about Miorița, which he sent to the ethnologist Adrian Fochi for observations and when he met with the same scholar (in Bucharest in 1983) and discussed the prospect of a new reading of the masterpiece of Romanian popular literature, to which the folklorist expressed serious reservations. Some biographical data – about the university studies that Adrian Fochi went on with Grigore Nandriș in Chernivtsi or with D. Caracostea in Bucharest – or the bibliography of the works of the prematurely deceased scholar, complete the portrait of a leading representative of Romanian folklore.

Vatamaniuc), supporter of an indissoluble friendship (George Lăzărescu), ambassador of Romanian culture, pioneer of Romanian culture in Italy (Tudor Şoimaru), apostle of our culture (Ion Bianu).
