In the article “Ireland and Scotland” (1904), Scottish author and Gaelic-language activist Ruaraidh Erskine of Mar writes: A very interesting chapter in the history of international relations would be the narrative of those anciently subsisting between Ireland and Scotland. There exists abundant material for such a compilation; and we are inclined to marvel that no one has yet undertaken it, at least in a formal and connected way. […] As a nation, we hear little of Ireland; and that which we do hear is obviously “cooked” for our consumption.1 He also notes that Scottish periodicals, even those focused on Gaelic affairs, pay surprisingly scarce attention to Ireland, and that there seems to be little willingness to cooperate and exchange experience in relation to linguistic and cultural revivalist efforts in both countries, given their evident closeness and shared experience

Dear readers, this is one issue of Slovo a smysl that, in all certainty, you are not holding in your hands. For a simple reason: issue 42 is the first issue to be published only in electronic format. This is due to a combination of factors ranging from broader trends in contemporary academic journal publishing to purely pragmatic aspects related to the underfunding of Czech universities. Although the journal will no longer be published in physical form, the entire editorial team will strive nonetheless to ensure that it remains a fully-fledged periodical with a rich range of sections and individual profile, and not simply a downloadable collection of articles. From the editorial point of view not much has changed, though undoubtedly those readers who were used to and preferred the traditional medium will notice the change. In any case, we the editorial team will do our utmost to continue delivering quality content and an interesting mix of contributions.

Tematický blok věnovaný myšlení Vladimíra Boreckého (6. 12. 1941 — 6. 2. 2009) vychází z konference „Kultura a imaginace“, jež byla u příležitosti nedožitých osmdesátin autora uspořádána na Fakultě humanitních studií Univerzity Karlovy ve dnech 12.–13. listopadu 2021. Pokrýt všechna témata z pestrého Boreckého díla nebylo v silách konference a není to ani úkolem předkládaného bloku.
