This special issue on Humour and Folklore contains 15 articles by 18 contributors. Ten studies are in English, three in Russian, one is in French, and one in German. This issue grew from seven panels and plenary lectures on humour research presented in Hungary in 2007 at the International Symposium “Humour and Linguistics/Folklore” organized by Anna T. Litovkina and Péter Barta at the Illyés Gyula College of Education (Szekszárd, 14–16 September 2007). The program committee accepted proposals for papers on focused topics that examined humour in relation to linguistics or folklore.

The Polish discussion on Ukraine and the “Eastern Question” filled the pages of many of the underground publications that existed in the 1980s in communist Poland. Similar to Kultura since the late 1940s, they called for reconciliation between former enemies and mutual forgiveness for past crimes committed by all sides.

Tekstovi u ovom tematskom broju objedinjuju suvremeni pogled na odnose u obitelji, opisane u modelu međugeneracijske solidarnosti američkoga znanstvenika Verna L. Bengtsona. Dimenzije modela jesu čestina kontakata, emocionalna blizina, sličnost u mišljenu, geografska blizina, primanje pomoći / davanje pomoći, kontakti, blizina, tj. čimbenici povezani s kvalitetom života u raznim razdobljima životnoga ciklusa pojedinca.

Intergenerational Family Solidarity across Europe is the theme of this issue of the journal Društvena istraživanja. Intergenerational family solidarity is a construct that includes relationships among family members and their mutual exchange: relations of grandparents and their grandchildren, social support, quality of marital satisfaction, intergenerational differences, the importance of the quality of relations of the elderly and their adult children. The quality of life of older family members is linked to reciprocity in relationships, the more involved the older members are in the family, the more satisfied with life they are; this is then reflected in different ways in the younger generations and vice versa. The texts in this issue combine a contemporary view of family relationships, described in the model of intergenerational solidarity by US scientist Vern L. Bengtson. The dimensions of this model are frequent contacts, emotional proximity, similarity in thought, geographical proximity, receiving help / helping, contacts, proximity, i.e. different factors associated with the quality of life at different periods of an individual's life cycle.

Prije trideset godina, u jednom, u početku nevezanom razgovoru s pokojnim prof. dr. sc.

For most people, be they psychologists or laymen, the concepts of development and education evoke images of progressing along a line of expanding knowledge, deepening one’s understanding of the world, and multiplying and upgrading competencies. But lest we forget that each step up this ladder entails countless social or sociocultural interactions, and myriads of emotional experiences and transactions, we decided to take a detour from the usual path following mostly cognitive growth and change, to a more adventurous exploration of the diverse landscape which surrounds it – devoting this issue of Psihologija Journal to the social and emotional aspects of developmental and educational processes.

The 2013–2014 political protests and subsequent transformations of Ukraine’s political landscape, as well as the annexation of Crimea and military actions in the eastern part of the country, significantly changed Ukrainian society and also revealed new social phenomena and processes, thereby suggesting new topics and directions for social research of Ukraine for scholars both inside the country and abroad. During this period the themes of political crisis, revolution, war, refugees and internal migration, social media and mobilization, information warfare, and memory policy were added to the more traditional Ukrainian studies topics of collective and cultural memory, national identity, borders and borderlands, ethnonationalism, regionalism, and such.
