The Teleki - Bolyai Library owns a huge amount of obituaries, printed between 1783-1976. Even though the primary aim of these documents was to commemorate the death of someone, the data included in them can be used for several types of research. The first part of the paper focuses on the presentation of the obituary, as a source-type, and of the collection held in the above-mentioned library. The second part of the paper presents the process of elaboration of an Excel table, which facilitates the work of researchers and librarians, and also allows the preservation of the printed document.
