„I pójdzie ze mną do Lwowa, to znaczy do trumny”. Przedmiot jako strażnik pamięci o Kresach

Author(s): Anna Maria Dubaniewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2012

This article identifies the forms of updating and constructing the memory of the Eastern Borderlands through material objects, referring to Jan Assmann’s concept of cultural memory, memory of the things and the process of exceeding places from the space. These considerations are supported by the statements of the formerly residents of the Eastern Borderlands taken from interviews conducted by me in 2010–2012 in Lower Silesia. Described objects as earth, spoons, rugs and Christmas decorations create symbolical, but based on the living memory milieux de mémoire in contrast to the objects placed in the chambers of memory and museums of Borderlands, which are institutionalizing and typing in the historical process the image of Borderlands, being a lieux de mémoire according to the concept of Pierre Nora.

„Imidž“ reklamného jazyka z hľadiska reflexie zobrazovaného produktu/služby v kontexte štylizovanej reklamnej tvorby

Author(s): Eva Vopálenská / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 3-4/2009

The main quality of an advertising text (in the meaning of semantic structure containing the unique communication message) consists of its prosodic – poetic dimensions. All of them have one significant feature: they have no absolute weight (like in poetry), but only relative weight. Advertising discourse has prosodic dimensions, but also heads for beyond itself. It is aimed to communicate reality, but it also goes “beyond” it.. Advertising discourse aspires to become the most massive and the most importunate discourse of the 20th century. This camber of the advertising discourse (which is itself multimodal ergo language is only one part of a complex structure of an advertising communicator) causes problems in respect of determining functions of an advertising language.

„Ispita” lui Mircea Vulcănescu sau căutarea de sine între identitate şi alteritate

Author(s): Roberto Merlo / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 08/2012

The present study represents a survey of theories relating to the Romanian specific national character developed in the 30s–40s of 20th century by Romanian philosopher, sociologist and economist Mircea Vulcănescu. In the first place some of the key concepts that underlie the speculations of the author (neam roughly ‘people’, ispită ‘temptation’) are discussed and contextualized in the cultural, social and political reality of his time. Further, some relevant aspects of Vulcănescu’s ‘theory of temptations’ are analysed in detail, in relations not only with the cultural reality of the author’s time but also with contemporary situation, highlighting strengths, flaws and topicality of Vulcănescu’s questions and answers.

„JA ETO ŽALIM ZA SALAMOM“

Author(s): Ljiljana Pešikan-Ljuštanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 156-157/2011

Author(s): Maria Makarowa / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02/2013

In this article I describe the fieldwork conducted in Israel in 2012 among those who have emigrated from the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in Russia. Along with a general overview of the research I present a detailed analysis of my interlocutors' discourses regarding the languages they speak and their attitude towards Judaism and what is commonly understood as Jewishness. I concentrate mainly on the knowledge of Yiddish (which up until now is the official language in Birobidzhan) and Hebrew, and also on the categories that define the Jewish element of identity for them.

„Katalikiškoji dauguma“ Lietuvoje kintančios religinės situacijos kontekste. Religinio pragmatizmo koncepcijos formulavimas

„Katalikiškoji dauguma“ Lietuvoje kintančios religinės situacijos kontekste. Religinio pragmatizmo koncepcijos formulavimas

Author(s): Aušra Pažėraitė / Language(s): Lithuanian Issue: 1/2014

Straipsnyje keliama šiandien aktuali teorinė religijotyros problema, kaip konceptualizuoti daugelyje šiuolaikinių visuomenių pastebimą įsigalėjusių religijų ir visuomenės santykių ambivalentiškumą, kai, viena vertus, akivaizdus didelės dalies atotrūkis kasdienybėje tarp religinės tapatybės ir praktikos bei tikėjimų, kita vertus, vis atsinaujinantis religijos prestižas ir įtaka. Tarpdisciplininės kritinės diskurso analizės metodu analizuojant viešąjį diskursą Lietuvoje, kai kurių akademinių publikacijų konceptualius siūlymus, kritikuojama normatyvinė perspektyva, kurioje didžioji dauguma katalikiška save laikančios visuomenės yra vertinama per normatyvinę katalikybės (ir bendrai religijos) sampratą, leidžiančią kvestionuoti šios daugumos katalikiškumą, arba, priešingai, priimant katalikišką tapatybę kaip savaime suprantamą dalykų tvarką, kvestionuojama kitokios religijos pasirinkimo egzistencinio apsisprendimo galimybė, kaip ir tuo atveju, kai šitokia nuostata kvestionuojama kaip hegemoniška, bet pasirinkimas konceptualizuojamas per laisvosios rinkos metaforą. In the article an actual theoretical problem in religious studies is posed, such as how should we conceptualise the certain ambivalence of relationships of large societies to religion observed in many modern societies with a significant gap between everyday life and religious identity, practices and beliefs, also between the resurgence in religious prestige and political influence. Analysing the public discourse in Lithuania, some conceptual proposals in Lithuanian academic publications using the method of interdisciplinary critical discourse analysis, the normative perspective in which the catholicity of the vast majority of Catholic society in Lithuania is questioned. Yet upholding the Catholic identity by that majority as a natural order of things, enabling that majority to question the possibility of a serious existential choice of a different religion, is criticized as hegemonic in both cases. In the case of academic criticism of this kind of hegemony, the choice of religion is conceptualized through the free market metaphor. In this article Catholic hegemony in Lithuania is designated through the very identity of that majority of people, and that this hegemonic consciousness enables them in general to maintain their everyday life, beliefs and practices out of the direct reach of existential searching, to maintain their religious indolence, and at the same time to perceive itself as constituting the normative majority. This type of religious attitude is defined here as pragmatic, and pragmatism is defined as maintaining religious identity and belonging to a religious institution for reasons other than existential concerns, including those that provide some social and/or symbolic benefits, and/or additional benefices associated with the ultimate “guarantees”.

„Kauno istorijos“ pirmojo tomo sutiktuvės rotušėje

Author(s): Laima Bucevičiūtė / Language(s): Lithuanian Issue: 54/2010

Author(s): Liliana Danciu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 1/2018

The unprecedented experience of Gavrilescu, the main character in the La Țigănci short story, continues to arise various interpretations, proving the viability of this eliadesc writing. For some literary critics, he is the anti-hero by definition, which lives what Eliade understands by "level break", but without understanding anything of it. The ordinary man, with a banal existence, routinely in the profane becomes the Chosen One uselessly claimed by sacred, for ignorance prevents him from seeing beyond the Illusion. In the hut of the gypsies, he crosses a rite of passage, from life to death, proof being the shrouded curtain that will wrap his naked body, the terrible thirst for unpopularity, and the surprising encounter with the always young Hildegard, the beloved of his youth. In this article, I try to reveal another dimension of this eliadesc short story, linked to the name of the main character, which, in my opinion, refers to the name of the archangel Gabriel, the "pair" of the other, Michael. As it is known, the name of the archangel Michael is directly related to the Romanian legionary movement in the inter-warperiod, a nationalistic, violent and criminal political-ideological movement that has successfully manipulated local religious and cultural elements to gain followers and become strong. Up to a point, the Romanian legionary movement stood under the sign of both archangels, synthesizing both the intellectual and the political dimensions. In time, the two directions have broken apart, and the legion has remained exclusively under the warlike sign of the warrior archangel. The Romanian intellectuals, who originally sympathized with the nationalist ideals of the legionary movement, distanced themselves from it and remained under the soteriological mark of Archangel Gabriel. This is, in my opinion, the message hidden by Eliade in this unusual short story. Also, using allegory and symbol, the Romanian author turns out to be a man of vision and prophesies the future of Romania, which has been culturally and historically marked, in time, by Germany. The present does not contradict Eliade, because Germany is the engine of the European Union, of which Romania wants to be part.
